I Want A Hero!
Options
An HTC Hero, that is. Last year's must-have mobile is a wee bit overshadowed now by the Desire and Legend, but it's about to be upgraded to Android 2.1 (the same version used by both those phones) which means it's still an awesome handset by anyone's standards. Amazon's price for a SIM-free, unlocked Hero, currently stands at £299.99 - but that price has been dropping consistently over the last few months, and surely it's gonna drop again once the newer models are launched.
How low? I'm gonna stick my neck out, and say my target price is £230. I've seen people on other boards suggest prices as low as £150, but that sort of price would put it below the Samsung Galaxy Portal, so I think that's just wishful thinking!
Anyone else waiting for the Hero price to plummet? How low does it have to go before you take the plunge?

I have the Hero and soon to have the x10 but I can tell you that the hero is amazing, however there was 1 major problem with it and that was the awake time being 100%. Google it and you will see, took me quite some time to get it back down under 10% so the battery wouldn't drain.
Simple workaround was to use another sms app than the default one, however, even then, some people's heros still stayed at 100% awake and there has been no fix so they had to just soft reset everytime.
Other than that, I don't see any problem with the hero. Have you seen the HTC legend, kind of an upgraded version to the hero. And also, the hero is still selling at £200 - £250 used on ebay so hopefully when my x10 arrives next week or two, the price wouldn't have dropped so much due to the desire and legend.0 -
Looking how much it was retailing for SIM only last year, £400, I would say that it would drop by £30 when the Legend/Desire comes out and drop further to say £200 by the year end. I doubt HTC will discontinue the Hero anytime soon as it's getting the Android upgrade in April and is still a very high specced handset.0

does anyone know if the Hero once upgraded to 2.1 will have the friends stream like the Desire and Legend? Two Pound Coin Savings club - Started 11/2/06 - £550 banked so far :T0

I would think it would have the majority of the functions of the Legend, however the Pulse Mini is getting the Android 2.1 update so it could just be a basic update.0
