Tumble Dryer Help Needed

Hi all,
Our Hotpoint tumble dryer is making a horrible loud squeaking noise and I think it might be at the end of its rope. It sounds like something that badly needs oiled if you know what I mean and the noise is atrocious - not being technically minded though I've not got a clue what's going on with it. We've had it just over 3 years I think and I've already had the element replaced once so I think I may have to bite the bullet and get a new one. Any ideas on good decently priced tumble dryers out there - what should I be looking for? It's one of the small ones as we can't fit any bigger into the space we have and I know the bigger ones need to be next to the window for an air vent or something. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Regards
Michelle

I don't know too much about tumble dryers because I don't have one but does it not just need new bearings fitted? I would assume anything making that kind of noise either needed oiling or the bearing replacing and I don't suppose it's the former.0

Hi there,
Thanks for the replies. It probably does just need something that's clearly worn out replaced or oiled as you say kittiwoz. I checked out that website and it gave a long list of different parts that could've worn out and need replaced but as I've no idea which part it is that's causing the problem and no idea what it would cost I'm just a bit worried that getting a tradesman out to fix it will cost as much as its worth! I haven't had the best of luck with tradesmen and don't know any reliable ones I can call on. Obviously if it is a part that needs replacing that was cheap it would be worth fixing. Really not sure what to do. What does a decent new dryer retail at? Thanks.

I stand corrected!!
We replaced ours not too long ago, but looked a bit further up the range. That must've clouded my thinking!0 -

Hi everyone,
Well I decided to at least get someone out to look at it and see if there's a simple fix before buying a new one. Will update when I know! Thanks.

Hi,
I have had this exact problem with my HOTPOINT and today, after 3 months of various hotpoint 'fix it' men giving their opinions and sucking air through their teeth, the problem has been resolved !
Hotpoint have had to admit that it is a design fault with some of their machines, that there is not enough gap between the drum and the outer casing so when the machine heats and cools, expands and contracts, you get an awful grinding noise of metal on metal.
The only solution is to have a new drum fitted that is angeled around the edge givingmore space to turn.
Mine is being fixed on Friday - HORAY !!!
It's probably worth giving Hotpoint customer service a ring and explaining the problem, as they have already admitted the fault I would think that they would replace your drum for free.

You will need your model number and serial number.
Hope this helps.0
