Budget and lodger.
Someone's said in the past that anyone on a teacher training course is police checked... if you're looking for a lodger then that might be a good place to start.0 -
That's a good point. And a whole host of other jobs, such as social worker, nurse, etc.Been away for a while.0

If a person doesn't want a lodger, for whatever reason, then they don't want a lodger and that's the end of it. There is a significant loss of privacy, some potential risk and a lot of responsibilities that come with it. I understand why a lodger is often proposed for householders that are short of money but it really doesn't suit everyone. An older person should be looking forward to peace and quiet instead of having a virtual stranger in the house.0

agree also but people think the word lodger represents a male younger often professional companion who would rather have the match on than the bill ,the op has limited options atm just giving a lodger option. sounds to me that the op may want to hand back and become a council tennant which is going to prove difficult for her as in her words a older lady on her own that wants to stay there. jowo thanks i totally agree and only gave a option whats yours:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -

That she looks at the Shelter website which lists various schemes available to homeowners struggling to pay their mortgage. This includes some info on one where housing associations buy the property and allow the home owner to stay there as a tenant which is close to what the OP wants, though whether or not she is eligible for it is something for her to investigate.
Let's face it, suggesting a lodger to a homeowner who patently doesn't want one on the grounds that beggars can't be choosers, is a bit of a non-starter.
A person who may covert peace, quiet and privacy ends up with a virtual stranger in their private domain while the lodger ends up with someone who is only renting a room for the money and resents their presents...
There was a lady experiencing a shortfall in LHA on the Benefits Board who was repeatedly advised to get a lodger. It later transpired she was a victim of domestic violence from her ex who continued the abuse. Try sticking an innocent lodger into that dynamic!0 -
I didn't want lodgers back in the 90s, but it was that or lose my house.
I chose to keep my house. Life isn't always ideal, but we do our best.Been away for a while.0 -
