    Done.

Asking people to simply tick one of two boxes in answer to important and broad questions like "Do YOU think the British way of life is changing for the better or for the worse?" might not generate the most useful results. I'd be interested to see what you'd do with those results...

...can we have a sneak peek at the diss. when it's completed? :)

that question was taken from a piece of work published in a journal called 'The Review of International Political Economy' but i do agree that it is weak.

I have actually had trouble analysing my results from the last survey and have created an additional 60 second survey which it would be VERY useful if people could answer! In only have 2 weeks left in which to get this disseration done. What a nightmare.

    Done it.

I didn't like the question about political affiliation because there are floating and tactical voters around.

Also if you had a comments section you could have got some useful ideas about what to write about in the dissertation or original quotes to use.

For example my yes and no selections don't make any sense unless you know what industry I'm involved in.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

i didnt want to include a comments section as I am only going to analyse the results using quantitative methods.

i didn't want to start a new thread but have quick question on referencing.

is it acceptable to simply pick references out of another persons work? for example if they have used references on the topic of 'using questionnaires' can i take them and put them in my own work'?

i would then add the sources they have referenced from to my list of references.

i would only do this when i can check the reference is correct though by looking in the book.
  • I assume the question is as follows:

You read something written by author A saying that author B says blah.

Here you should go and find the article/paper/book written by author B and check that author A has quoted author B correctly. Then in the references use author B.

However more importantly and to apply to your case:
if you can`t find the original articel (etc) by author B you should write:
author B, cited by author A...
But don`t overuse the secondary referencing!

    Hope that helps!

    thanks for clearing that up.

does anyone also know when its neccesary to cite the page as well as the author and data? i have looked in google for this but it seems unclear.

    i am using Harvard referencing.

Cite the page when using a direct quote, otherwise the name and date is fine.
