I do find it sad however that we see some Mums putting their childrens pictures in the creche bin before they even leave the building!
To be fair - who are you to judge that one? They *might* have stuff framed at home or whatever - they might be in the middle of a housemove and not want clutter - there's a million reasons - and with the sheer number of paintings etc some kids can generate - you'd need a separate house to store 'em all.
My mum used to keep things for a while (used them to make the clear sliding glass doors we had in the house visible so people didn't walk into them as much), then when they got tatty out they went - I'm not emotionally scarred by the fact she didn't keep a splodge of brown paint from age 2, she's got my old birthday cards, she's got my old school reports and we're all recovering hoarders in our family. The only real stuff that's been kept is my A-Level textiles work that's framed around the house.
Is love really defined by how many bits of paper you keep?
I don't generally keep birthday cards or anything (keep valentines cards from hubby as it's the one time he tends to let his feelings really out), will keep our wedding cards as that's a rare one-off thing, but some people aren't as attached to bits of paper as others... when teaching I used to keep the million and one "you're the greatest teacher ever" pictures I ended up with on a board near my desk and they got cleared off at the end of a year (kids are very fickle - their new teacher is always the greatest teacher within 1 hour of meeting 'em!) - I kept leaving cards and thank you ones (and "made" Xmas cards etc) - but I've moved house a lot recently and things from 5-6 years ago did get looked at again, smiled at and cleared out in a lot of cases.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

I am not judging their right not to keep it, just how they go about it. I do not keep them all, however I do at least take them out of the building, show them to my OH so he can comment to the children on them, then they go into recycling overnight when LO's are in bed.
The person in question picks her LO up, who shows her the pictures, she then walks through & dumps them in the bin, LO will often comment "but that was for Dad" or "that was my picture". The LO does get quite sad sometimes when they do it. I just feel for the child....I know I would not like seeing someone bin everything I have worked so hard on day in, day out.0 -
I'm aiming to keep one or two every six months, so I'll have a nice progression of things. The others I use to wrap birthday pressies- saves on wrapping paper!2009: £328

I try to just keep the best things, but still have got at least 3 huge folders full of my daughters stuff. If I kept everything I'd have no room though. My daughter loves making stuff out of old boxes, and drawing, and painting.
I usually keep her best and latest creations on display for a week or two, before taking it down.
Currently my bedroom wardrobe has a work of art lovingly created with plasticine, a sheet of plastic, and a piece of string attached to it. It keeps falling off, and my daughter keeps mending it for me. I have a wooden spoon 'dinosaur' decorating my mantelpiece, plus numerous other bits and pieces dotted about.0 -
I have a lot of stuff pinned up in the hallway. Certificates, paintings etc. Special things that they have put a lot of effort into will go into their memory boxes. Splodges will be recycled.
My 4yo is obsessed with making 'gluings' which are loads of boxes stuck together with about a litre of PVA glue. :rotfl:Some of them are quite good - we had a lighthouse with a helicopter landing pad brought home the other week lol. I take pictures of his creations then recycle them once he has played with them until they come apart.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I only get to keep a few very special ones by my youngest son.....he now sells his!
For Christmas, just so I could have one to keep, I asked him to do one for me.
He is 12.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
I keep the best things in a storage boxes. Some go on the wall and either get replaced with new ones or thrown when they get tatty. Others get given away to other people - "oooh I'm sure Gran would love that one......"
Here I go again on my own....0 -
Needs to track down the Bad Mummy thread methinks.:o
I keep cards, and rotate the best of the rest on the kitchen walls. A few extra special ones are on my bedroom walls, for keeps.
90% get recycled.....I already feel like I'm drowning under 'stuff' (OH's overflowing shed, DD's desk, this weeks ironing:(Not just a sucker for sweeties..:o0
