If you have put money in, it will be 2009 Isa (falls in period 6/4/9 to 5/4/10).
You would normally call it 2009-2010 Isa, next years then is 2010-2011.

I didn't need to put any money in to open it (and did intend to fund it after receiving paperwork etc). So it's still empty.

You can - the account just continues. Obviously the 2010-2011 money cannot go into it till 6th April 2010 or after that date.

I am opening the Flex account with A&L on Monday 29th March 2010 but it will not have any money in it till 6th April 2010 .
