Your outfit sounds fine, but I have to admit to being slightly peeved that one of DH's older sisters wore black ( head to toe) to our wedding. But then again, I knew it was a sign of mourning :rotfl: No, I wasn't imagining it, she never tired of telling me she would always have known him longer than me. Not if you die first sweetie :D ( must say other sister is the sister I never had, love her to bits ) I'd have a quick check with the bride, but I doubt she'll object.

Totally acceptable in my book. I would be more happy that people had turned up than worrying about what they were wearing, after all a wedding is about sharing your commitment to each other with those you care about, not analysing and picking holes in what they are wearing. I hope I would have much better things to be thinking about!!

I wore black when my daughter got married. I have a pathological dislike of those outfits that are matching from head to toe in those awful MOB colours (no offence, we're all different!) So I bought a beautiful black 'designer' dress (well - from Debenhams:)), a pale pink jacket and a black hat which I dressed up with some pink feathers. I did check with daughter first but she was quite happy for people just to be there, regardless of what they wore. Some of us were taken aback by one male guest who came in jeans and polo shirt but she didn't notice until she saw the photos!

Do you have a photo of the dress? Each black dress is very different though!

  • Thanks everyone for your comments so far... this is the dress and I was thinking of getting this jacket to wear with it

i hadnt even thought about it not being an acceptable colour, im getting silver accessories shoes, shawl etc.
if someone has a moan about it then id have a go at them about having better things to be concerned about!

plus my bridesmaids will be in black!

I've been to quite a few weddings where guests have worn black. No one has been offended by it. If you are still worried have a quick word with the bride.

  • I am getting married in May and my bridesmaids are wearing black. I really don't see it being a problem. I would never wear ivvory or white but black I would say is fine!

Drat I misread the question and then clicked no..when I meant to say Yes.

I don't see a problem wearing black to a wedding, you are lifting it with coloured accessories so go and wear your outfit you will look fab.
