If you expect it to be just you, then if there's someone else it will be a bonus IYSWIM. Might help, might not but XXX

Good avcice hun, I think I did expect it to be just me when I went and bought a house on my own--I am normally very independent. I think it must be the icy weather that's making me a bit miserable. Everything is just more difficult in this weather.

Was snuggled up on the sofa last night and came across a very interesting tv programme. It was about 6 lads who would spend a lot of time drinking. Their challenge was to give it up for 6 months from the middle of summer until New Years Eve. It was torture for them. Suddenly they had nothing to do when they couldn't go to the pub.

In a while 2 of them started going to the gym, 1 went back to playing soccer-he had previously missed training too often because he was in the pub and was usually too hungover to play matchs on a Sunday. Another went back to music and songwriting. Not too sure about the other 2, the programme is a series so I'll have to watch again.

Now I'm not a drinker and none of my MSE friends are trying to give up drink either but it was interesting because the exact same situation applies to all lifestyle changes we are trying to make. One of the guys who couldn't go to the pub went for a walk instead, only to walk past 8 pubs :wall: That's what I'm like with clothes and cosmetics, coffee shops, newsagents. It wasn't the drink they were missing, they weren't alcoholics but the lifestyle that went with it.

That sounds a really interesting program - you will have to keep us updated. It is hard to change a lifestyle. That is one of my 50 day challenges to work out what to do with my life as my lifestyle has been changed for me. I am sure you will get to where you want to go :) But remember "never said it would be easy just that it would be worth it".

Haven't been around due to getting a cold and having a pathetic immune system I ended up on 2 weeks antibiotics and felt rather sorry for myself. As for the RA it doesn't get affected by the weather so it can be whatever it likes and the RA does whatever it likes :rotfl: Bit annoyed with myself though as just been to the dentist as had such pain in tooth (that's disintegrated) and found out that I had caused the problem with my gum due to my enthusiastic use of the temporary filling stuff from Boots - £16.50 to tell me  He said he would root canal it though to make sure and the next date available - 23rd - go me :j

:grouphug: @butafli Sounds like you've been having a horrible time lately.

Well I can't go to my mothers for the weekend or anywhere that's further than walking distance (icy roads) so wondering what I can do to entertain myself instead

From reading other diaries on here other people seem to be enjoying snow days much better than I am. Baking, reading, watching dvd box sets while eating selection boxes, doing Christmas shopping online all while burning scented candles....it all sounds so winter wonderland.

    Morning

Well the tooth saga continues or not ... woke up this morning looking like Harry Hamster storing for winter on my left side. Thinking blocked sinus. So this morning I have been inhaling Vicks (well cheapo version). Bonus to this is that it really wakes you up and clears any cobwebs in your head :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

As for this weekend I think you should allow yourself to do what you want to. Allowing yourself a full day is wonderful and make sure you plan it so you have your own winter wonderland. :snow_laug:rudolf::xmassmile That is completely different to just doing bits you like and then thinking you've not done anything IYSWIM. Hope you enjoy whatever you decide to do. On a completely different note .. my OH got me a slow cooker about three weeks ago and I think I have used it at least 15 times. LOVE IT!!!

I’ve been ok thanks hun. On the sofa now watching the X-Factor results. Bit lonely because while the roads are too icy for driving I’m on my own. I braved the icy footpaths to make it to the bus stop to get into the city centre yesterday.

Started with lunch then I looked around the shops and the Christmas market.

I looked at the gift sets in Boots for ages. I’m so familiar with the stock now that I’ll have no problem doing a bit of a trolley dash on 75% sale day. Didn’t buy anything but there are quite a few things I’d love to get. Everything’s vastly overpriced and I’m poor so I’ll mostly be waiting for the 75% off sale.

Spent ages in the bookshops too, have decided that I must read 1 book a month next year. I do read books but loads of them are of the self-help variety. I’m thinking bookclub type books here. To start with:
    • “Room” by Emma Donoghue
    • “One Day” by David Nicholls
Avoided clothes shops because I can’t afford clothes.

I went to the Christmas market where there was some lovely food but like everything else in Ireland it was just too expensive. Lunch items like pizza, fish+chips, burgers, hot-dogs were costing from €4-8. Then around €3 for coffee and €4 for mulled wine. For €11 I had a lovely lunch (coffee included) in a Michelin guide recommended restaurant which had the added advantage of tables to eat at and heating! But I did buy some miniature cupcakes and tiramisau which was served in tiny plastic cups, the type that are used for sampling wine in supermarkets. http://www.bitesize.ie/Gallery.html

Really enjoyed the X-Factor results show. I'm sorry that Mary Byrne didn't make it to the final next week. I'm not a fan of her music at all but I do feel very supportive of her and I think she has achieved so much. My favourite X-Factor person is Louis Walsh--:heart2: him. I think he has a big party planned for Mary in Dublin on Tuesday. It's his plan to cheer Irish people up on budget day.

Just flicked over to the news. 3 elderly people have died in Ireland as a direct result of the weather. They also said that hospital A+E departments are at crisis point dealing with fractures from people falling. Please let this cold spell end soon.

Wondering if it would be incredibly stupid to sign up to a 24 month phone contract so that I could get an iphone for €19? I think it would be ok because I’ve had my old phone for almost that long and the monthly bills would only be a tiny bit higher than the bills I pay at the moment. I need a mobile, it’s my main phone because I don’t have a landline. I’ve been dying to get a smartphone for ages so I think this might be my Christmas present to myself. Having email on the phone would be really useful for mystery shopping too. This contract also includes €90 credit towards bills and a free ipod shuffle.

    How is the tooth?

What have you been making in the slow cooker. I haven't used mine since the trial run with the soup that I wasn't deighted with.

Mary Byrne just got a mention on the Irish news:T Amazing because the media are so busy talking about the weather and the budget it's been ages since something fun like the X-Factor got on the news.
