Good to get a counter view, cabbageboy. I'll do some research. BBLContext is all.

Hmmm... beaten to it but I was thinking that since the label covers pretty much half of the envelope then in many cases you're only saving half the paper involved. THEN there's the thing that the whole area of the label is covered in gum instead of just the licking strip on the flap of a normal envelope.
And good cause or not - these things seem to use up a lot of ink to promote their message.
Oh well, I think I'll stick with just using recycled.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I only tend to re-use jiffy bags, and just re-seal them with unsightly brown tape!
Just tear out the window, scrunch it up and stick it in yer compost. (We're not allowed to recycle them because of the gum, but composting's the next best choice for me!)
And I don't know if it's ever been posted, but try opening your post in the dark (e.g. in the cupboard under the stairs) - some of the non-lick envelope gums generate a weird blue spark. Kids love it (e.g., me!)0 -
cabbageboy wrote:But surly the actual ammount of paper and gum used in these 'eco-friendly' labels, combined with their actual cost is more than a new Envelope???
Sorry - I don't see the benefit of these - you're using as much paper, processing, gum and money to achieve the same result as a new envelope?!?
Just buy a new recycled paper envelope.
No need to apologise. You're entitled to your view. I wanted one to re-use a particularly sturdy, large manilla envelope to send something in the post, but I wanted it to look tidy. I'd also like to be able to re-use Jiffy bags sometimes. I think it would be handy to have a pad of these labels for such situations. I don't think I'd use them for ordinary 'letter' sized envelopes.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
On the same subject, sort of...when recycling envelopes do you have to rip off the gummed edges as well as the window?0

You can design your own, take it down to a printer and have as many of these things printed as you like. You can stick them on with a prit-stick.To buy or not to buy, need not be in question
