greent's mfw journey

I have definitely been more mindful when it comes to spending of late - not necessarily not spending, but what I've spent has been more considered. Things like a gorgeous cream tea at a localish hotel - money spent on memories. Fresh flowers - they look nice and make me smile. Plants for the garden (mainly perennials) - look good.
Our house is beginning (in some areas!!) to look less cluttered - and that leads to a sense of lightness in one's self - and a sense that time can be taken out to just 'be'. I've resigned as Treasurer of the PTA (effective after AGM in June) and OH as a parent governor at the small ones' primary.
This is lovely, greent, thats such a great path to be on.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Brilliant stuff :jA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
Mortgage Balance = £0

Wow. So closeMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
I look forward to hearing about you relaxing in the sun, stoking up the chimenea......Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -

So I still have the shares, and I hope to live long enough to make a profit on them again!

That was OH's original plan - but he used them in the end to help finance his new car last year. TBH, I'm glad they went (for whatever reason) - he was still attached to them in a slightly unhealthy way with issues regarding his redundancy from there years ago - selling up is part of moving on!Freedom and choice. Perfectly sums up my mf dream. Well done Greent x
Thanksxx

Still on 3121, eh? Will you earn enough from the invigilating this year to pay it off? Or will that only take it to just under the 3k mark...?!NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0

Morning all - sat here with a 2nd cup of tea, having just eaten 2 bananas (feeling decidedly fat - need to do something about that, so have foregone toast with butter and HM marmalade for the bananas
). Have been up since 6.30 with DS3 - an inhuman time to get up on a Sunday morning imo!!
Shall wake OH shortly, although he's suffering slightly with 'man flu' (but as he fell asleep about 9pm last night I think he's had sufficient!) as we have plans for the day!! Not very exciting ones, though - he is going to blast the patio (not at all friendly in terms of water usage) - our creamy slabs are looking grey and grubby. I shall pot on the final tomatoes and I need to earth up the potatoes - the rain this week has meant they've had a growth spurt! I also need to plant my runner bean seedlings and have about 6 bedding plants left to find a home for. Then I can move all my pretty planted pots around the patio to where I want them to go (well, OH can do the lifting and shifting - I'll direct!) They're currently in one large gathering outside the living room patio doors at the mo. I have half a dozen strawberry runners to move beds too. It's not warm enough for a bbq (even with a chimenea!) , or I'd suggest that this evening. Not sure what to do for dinner tonight - but will have to make my mind up soon, as whatever it is will need the meat defrosting before anything else happens!
Also need to bake some more bread and something sweet for treats and lunchboxes and do homework with the small 2 (2 pieces with DS3, and 1 with DS2) Then there's the ironing (2 loads worth from yesterday), another load of washing to put on when collected from the bathrooms, a quick trip to either Tesc0 or A5da to get the bits which I can't get in A!di and vacuuming throughout downstairs (actually, not the playroom, as that's full of lego!) And eb@y have given me 100 FL, so I should try and use some of those up. I have about half a dozen random things to list, a batch of Thomas trains - and then a heap of things for charity. Oh - and I forgot that our accountant has finally started our y/e accounts (I dropped off all the paperwork in Feb) and has some queries which I need to look into ready for tomorrow.
We need to replace our boiler - it was discontinued in 2002 and parts for it and becoming harder to source - and it needs several things doing to it each year just to nurse it along now. It's a floor standing one (about the size of a w/m) so we're going to look at replacing with a wall mounted one - maybe. Need to do this sooner rather than later - a, the weather and b - we're re-doing the kitchen and the boiler needs sorting first. On the subject of the kitchen, we went window shopping yesterday. We currently have solid maple doors with very heavyweight solid handles from a local bespoke kitchen co. Could not find anything remotely the same quality unless we were looking at spending about 25k! I suggested (only half seriously) re-using the doors and changing the carcasses - which are shot. This could be a go-er! I don't really want to change the design/ layout of the kitchen, but the carcasses need sorting - and we HATE the flooring (large brown uneven porcelain floor tiles - I want karndean - we have it elsewhere and I love it) We also want new windows and doors - our front and back doors are very draughty, as are about half of the windows in the house (you can feel the breeze stood there and lighter weight curtains will actually move!) so totally energy inefficient.
ETA - it's about an hour later now - OH got up, so we're starting the day!x

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I don't think money from invigilating is going to make any significant change to our life!!I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
