Well, my house is now lacking 2 children!!!! We took DS1 to his uni yesterday and installed him in his halls :) We were the first people in the flat (seven bedrooms) - so had the pick of the kitchen spaces :D Am disappointed in there only being 1 twin socket (which isn't *that* securely attached to the wall, tbh) in his room. Nipped to TEsc0 anyway, so picked up 2 extension things - 1 4m 2 socket one to run from the wall socket (also helpfully hidden down the side of the wardrobe) under his bed to the bedside drawers for his phone charger and toothbrush (no charging points in (shared, very cold) bathrooms) and 1 4 socket/ 2 usb points from the wall socket to the desk for printer, laptop, desk lamp (o combat gloomy ineffective ceiling lamp) Really not fussed on his accom (hasn't really changed since I viewed it 31 years ago as a prospective uni!!!) , but am sure he'll survive! Will be sending him a parcel in the week though with a couple of small things which we hadn't thought of and some others which will be handy (and we already have, so no need to buy more) - will be using my freebie RM survey stamps, so no cost! :D :money: His flatmates seem to be incredibly shy - am hoping they come out of their shell a bit soon....

Took DD back today to her flat - horrid weather for the journey. Thankfully we parked right outside and only had to take in food/ clothes/ books (although that filled the car!! :D) Grabbed a quick snacky lunch for the 5 of us from Gregg5/ Tesc0 and tehn came back. Constant rain here all day and the house does feel a little chilly - will likely put the fire on in the living room this evening!

House already feels different.... And fridge/ freezer/ cupboards are looking much emptier! :rotfl:

A new normal (term time only!) starts from here.....
    xx

Greent, how weird for you ... that's only today that you've taken DD back, so **technically** I suppose it's too soon to miss them, plus you're still doing tasks on their behalf, but I bet you *do* miss them. Hope you can have a nice cuddle with the littlies in front of your fire :)

Thank you, karma, apple and newgirly :) It's different here already - just simple things like when I popped to Tesc0 I didn't buy things for them. The washing is less (well it will be once I've washed / dried/ ironed all their stripped bedding) and the dishwasher is emptier! I wouldn't necessarily see much of them on a weekend anyway. unless it was at mealtimes.

DS1 went out last night and after a bad start to the evening (he left his d/licence in his flat, thinking his student ID and the wristband would be enough to get him in the venue - for some it was, for him, no - thankfully he got the bus there and back reasonably quickly and caught back up with the rest of them) he had a great time. Not a massively late night (1am ish?) and isn't having a late night tonight, as he has a 9.30 tomorrow morning (and also Tues and Weds mornings). He's planning on going out again on Weds night though! :)

There's another lad in his flat who is on the same course, so that's at least a face they'll each know when the course induction starts tomorrow - even if they don't end up being proper friends :)

DD is fine - as to be expected. She has 2 shifts at work this week, including a 6hr shift at a club night on FRi (finishing at gone 3am! - I don't envy her! :D)

I have made a pot of chilli today using bits up from the fridge and freezer. OH and I will have it with freshly baked wholemeal/ seedy bread later, with HG pears poached in red wine and vanilla cream after - yum! The smalls don't like either of those things, so will be having something different (DS2 is poorly with a cold so has little appetite anyway) I've had a tidy/ sort of the fridge to make sure things won't get wasted and some bits have gone in the freezer as a result. I have several kilos of HG tomatoes frozen, so I forsee some soup making in the near future! I also have some ends of hm loaves frozen, so I shall do some chunky garlic-y croutons too :)

It's definitely feeling Autumnal here - although today has at least had some sunshine, unlike yesterday! Much chillier, though - and the trees seem to have suddenly started turning. I've pulled up the Summer bedding and have some pansies to plant up in pots for some colour. We even had the fire on last night, and a few tealight candles lit too :)

Sounds good, greent! Settling in is a long job for a first year ... I guess you need to be ready for some really late phone calls :) As for DD: ouch, I remember going to bed at 3am after finishing work at 9.30 and getting home at midnight, 20 years or so ago, but never finishing at 3am. Thats a *proper* night shift!

My view is at least it's a Fri night, Kc - so no lectures/ seminars to get up for :D Thankfully the walk to her flat from the SU takes literally no more than a minute! :D

DS1 seems to be ok. Am sure he's a bit homesick (and missing his gf) but they are beginning to chat in his flat, and he's been on a couple of nights out (gotta get the money's worth out of that Freshers' wristband! :D;)) It takes time....

Have been getting rid of stuff this week - lots of recycling of paper, cardboard boxes, empty bottles form used up toiletries, cracked takeaway tubs.... Binned items include broken flipflops and a broken car racing track game. CS will benefit tomorrow from a large bag of kids' clothes/ shoes/ toys/ dvds and a couple of A level text books and a brand new (still with labels on...…) metal pudding basin. Whilst I love steamed puddings I find that doing them in the micro is much easier and more 'me'. This basin has been catching my eye every time I open that cupboard and this week I decided it had to go! I also donated a bag full of bits to the shoebox appeal (I tend to have an ongoing bag) and have shoved a few more bits in the foodbank bag.

Have also been using up food - so much easier to see what's in the fridge/ freezer/ cupboards now that the students have half emptied them! :rotfl: Tomorrow I plan on making lentil and bacon soup and courgette and tomato soup and I found a bag of poorly stored rolls in the freezer (so they're falling apart) so I plan on turning them into yummy garlic-y croutons :D

Lovely weather here this week (chilly first thing, but warms up nicely) - opportunity to get lots of washing done :T

Oof! Another month is almost gone! So much happened in Sept in a short space of time - at the very start of the month DS1 was applying for jobs and now he's at uni! Proper timetable starts this week - he's just had induction stuff so far. DD has only had re-fresher stuff too - signing up to a couple of things. First 2 shifts at her job completed and she found it fun (tiring, but fun) I have said that she is free to drop it if it's impacting at all on her studies. She finished last year with a 69 score - so a 2:1 - and I know she'd love to push that to an overall 1st if possible this year (so an overall score of 70+)

Weather this week has been beautiful! Perfect for catching up on lots of washing :) It's meant to be a little more changeable this coming week, but I'm hoping to get out and vacuum all the falling leaves up (there will still be more to fall, but I'd like to make a start), harvest the last pears, plant the pansies I bought a couple of weeks ago :o:o..... (I will need a trip to buy some more compost though) and prune back some bushes (ideally these things before Thurs, as that's when green garden waste bin is collected)

BTL - we've overpaid £1584 this month (not entirely sure how we achieved that!!) so are well on the way to achieving our (increased) target of £7500 this year. I might scale repayments on it back a little next year if we decide to do a big holiday in 2020 - probably just ensuring I overpay 'excess' rental income and then all other stuff which would have been OPd can go to holiday fund :)

House - well we had the kitchen painted :T :j 1 of the 2 kitchen radiators is now back up. The other had a fitting damaged when being lifted back on by OH and DS2 so OH needs to change fittings and do some filling/ repainting as necessary. I'm kinda hoping this is in the next couple of weeks max, seeing as it *is* going to get colder and all that.... We've also received a quote for some painting in dining room and hall/ stairs/ landing. I'm inclined to go for all of it, but not sure about OH. We need to decide soon if we are to have it done before Xmas though!

Currently (as is usual) only DS3 and myself awake/ up at the mo. I'm going to wake DS2 up now - he has a lot of homework to get done today.....! :)
