So OH took the 3 boys off to cinema this afternoon, which left me at home with DD and her bf (henceforth known as 'the students') Peace reigned! - they locked themselves away watching Dr Who and I sorted out OH's expenses and then Xmas presents. I have one more left to buy (just some GCentre vouchers) which I will get tomorrow morning and1 'special' card left to get (will aim to get that at GC too) Most things are now wrapped, except for the stocking fillers and a couple of more awkward ones (I like to approach those 'fresh' to do them justice and 'prettify' them) That just leaves some cards to write, which I will aim to get done/ organised tomorrow (organised = get the kids to write ones to OH, my mum etc)

I have some things still to arrive - hopefully tomorrow - but they are for DS2's bday (6th Jan) Food wise I have some veggies to get - a quick dash into Aldi or Tesco on Fri will see me right for those (along with a stock up on milk) and then we are done :) We are seeing bestie and her hubby Fri night for a catch up and present swap and I think DD's bf is here until Fri (maybe even Sat?)

I have a freebie 'loyalty' voucher to spend in town which expires on Xmas Eve, so I may do a dash in on Fri morning (can get free parking if I go in early enough) - even if I spend it on overpriced goodies it's still free :D (I have £10, so not a fortune) My guess is they want people to spend way more than that, but I'm quite good at spending the voucher and not more (maybe £1 or less if things are silly prices and need rounding up)

Lovely! Another great plan coming together :)

I have a similar loyalty voucher, also expiring on Christmas Eve - £6 off a £30 spend, which is great. For me, anyway - I'm going to spend it on dishwasher tabs and pesto and general storecupboard food :)

  • Wow! You’ve achieved loads this year, well done! And next year’s plan also looks impressive. You’ve made me think I need to be more ambitious for 2018!!

Loved reading your review :) Heres to 2018
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Hopefully everyone has had a lovely Christmas :) Our Xmas Eve finished with me discovering a leaking loo in the boys' bathroom at around 9pm.... cue lots of banging and dismantling and soggy towels but OH managed to get the water supply isolated so it is just the loo out of commission :) He is currently at DIY store getting some bits to hopefully sort it. Meant for a late finish on Xmas Eve, but it could have been worse!

Children all seem happy with what they've got from various people. I've got one present (fancy earl grey tea bags - bleurgh) which is going to either foodbank or DS2's PTA (they make up hampers for events from various donations) and 1 which I'm not sure is me (a necklace and bracelet set) but the rest are great :) We have some foody gifts which are set to be consumed over the hols :)

Quiet day here - we've had Xmas Dinner sandwiches for lunch, made with fluffy huge HM white bread :) And chocolate, of course! :D Smallest has made lots of Leg0, DS2 has hardly taken off his Ravenclaw scarf and DS1 has been trying out his new games on PS4/ 3DS. DD has already read a book :) It's back to semi-normality today, in that the wm is on (no laundry on Xmas Day!!) but it's a very lazy, chilled day - no rush to hit the sales here! I have been researching new saucepans online(much needed) and deals and will continue to do so before making up my mind in a few days :) I also slept in until almost 9.30am!!! - was really needed! Other than that, our plans are minimal - play/ read/ eat/ sleep! :) Money thoughts are not really around in any guise (saving/ spending/ making) for a couple of days, whilst we all just chill and recharge.

Wishing you all a relaxing and peaceful time during this final week of 2017 :)
    xx

Thank you for doing a review of 2017 and your plans for 2018, as its made it very easy for me to catch up with your news. Sounds like a lot of positives achieved in 2017:)

Glad you had a good Christmas, although that leaky loo was very bad timing. Good thing you found it before it got worse

  • Sounds like another great Christmas was had!
    MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......
  • Sounds lovely except for the bathroom leak! Ravenclaw is the best house, so I completely agree with DS2. (Friends bought us matching Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff card holders).

Enjoy the rest of your Christmas week. :)
  • Sounds great. All the very best for another successful year in 2018!
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D
