Been charged £22 for being £1.90 overdrawn for 1 day, what can I do.

Barclays have charged me what i think is a ridiculous amount for being 1.90 over my reserve, which I didn't want set up. If this was not set up Id be charged £8, ive phoned them up, as its the first time ive ever been into the reserve and they told me tuff. Im furious is there anything I can do about this?

I will try and help you unlike the first 2 unhelpful posters! Persistance is the key. Call again ask to speak to a manager, try and be nice first then go down the shouting route! Or failing that go into your local branch and ask to close your account. They will refund it. I have been charged before and always always get it refunded where its a genuine mistake for a small period of time. Its bang out of order what they have charged you and you should and will get the money back. Good luck.

I agree. I find persistance pays off but try and be nice to the person on the other end of the phone. If they have any leeway to refund you then they are much more likely to do it if you are not taking it out on them personally. If you have no luck ask to speak to their superior and mention that they may be losing a longterm customer. Mention another bank you are interested in to sound like you are serious.

I would personally reccommend Smile, the internet version of the Coop bank. Their call centres win top prize for customer service year in year out and they always refunded me overdraft charges on the rare time I went over.
    Good Luck

They were just telling the reality! At the end of the day everyone has to take ownership of their own bank accounts.

We all sign on a piece of paper agreeing to banks' terms and conditions and then complain when banks enforce the same. there are countless no of posts here with prople complaining about overdraft charges. i am not saying that banks' dont make mistakes, they make tons of them but we have to be owners of our own finances..........

"just pay it and move on" is not advice the OP was asking for

I agree with signing banks terms and conditions however being charged over a 1000% for what you have been overdrawn by is robbery and should be stood up 2. You feel free to pay your charges but I and millions of others wont.

pay up & move on... dont slip up again.... great advice... and even if you did sign an agreement when you opened your account the terms and conditions WILL have changed over the last few years... and its not anyone has a choice any more to not have an account. wages are never paid in cash any more so a bank account is a must have. We are all being screwed over by banks and they know it. and until there is another way to move cash around they have us all over a barrel.

dont ask dont get. phone them and ask again. good luck

it may as well be robbery but then why does one sign up to such T&Cs (which means you agree to pay 1000% interest). we all want to have overdrafts and then dont want to pay for it. i have never paid a penny in charges !
