Credit Card for work (bad credit rating)

  • I can do both options I have a company c/c but if they do not except card I have to use cash and claim back. Also a lot of people I meet have to use their own cards and claim back monthly too.
Just because you don't see it every day doesn't mean it doesn't happen - if you had to get another job and they said you need to cover your expenses would you decline the role?

If you are working for a company you should NOT be expected to get a C/C to fund work trips.
That's fine if you are prepared to forego working in an industry where this is the norm.
It's easy to have principles when your in a comfortable position.
I do wonder whether you would turn down a job on that basis if you had arrears on your mortgage?
Just because I don't fall into line with your ideas, doesn't mean to say you are right.
I am certain I am right about the IT industry.
I don't happen to agree with it in principle (which is why I've made sure I have an advance), but my views on how you would be viewed by a lot of IT companies is correct.
I believe you have mistaken what I put for my opinion on it which has not been expressed until the previous sentence (where I agree with you it's morally wrong).

It was a real issue for me initially as I lost out on expenses when a previous company went into liquidation, so it was a HUGE issue, but I got round it by getting an advance.

Actually there are a number of people who really object to company CCs and would rather get rewards and cashback themselves, but each to their own.

In can't afford to chuck in my otherwsie very good job over an issue like this and I doubt many people could, so they jsut have to compromise on relatively small issues. For the vast majority it's not biggie and if it is then you should check it out at interview.
If you can afford to be picky and choosy in a recession then your doing better than most of us.

BTW - Now I agree with you, do you think I'm right? :-)

BTW - As I said before. In my company it wasn't a case of "we think this is morally right". It was a case of, "we have to cut costs and it's the administrator or one of you".

Whilst I don't agree with it, I do wonder how many would put their head above the parapet faced with such a decision i.e. offer up their job.

Harsh realities of life I'm afriad.

my company employees around 40,000 people world wide seems easier for them to pay expenses rather than having to manage credit cards for it's employees,

It's funny but I have never worked for a company that has had company cc's I have always been able to avoid till now.

It's generally easier for large companies to operate company credit card schemes than small companies, as all banks offer corporate schemes for exactly this type of thing.

I'm sure they do provide company cards for directors and managers, but choose not to offer to all staff.

From the employer's side, I've recommended that employees have access to funds when they go on training courses or onsite with clients. Whether they use a credit card or debit card is up to them, but they're made aware at the interview and in their contracts that travelling is a part of the job.

We'll pay for flights, accommodation, car hire and what we can, but meals and incidentals they pay for then claim back on expenses. The expenses are paid into their bank account soon as they get them signed off - my predecessor paid them at the end of the month with their salary so I changed that right away. Over the years there's only been one instance where a new techie got arsey that I wouldn't give him a bundle of cash to take with him - he claimed that he didn't have a credit card or a debit card, he'd never flown and had never travelled outside of Scotland .... he didn't last long ;)
