Hi
Have been told I need a credit card for work, Going to be spending a few nights away from home so need to pay for hotels / expenses etc...

Problem is I have a REALLY bad credit rating so am going to struggle to get a card with a decent rate, which as the card will be paid off each month my my comapny I'm not too worried about but still don't want to be stiffed!

my options look pretty limited to Vanquis, (been a capital one customer before and don't have ANY time for them)

does anyone know of any cashback deals with vanquis? or does anyone have any other advice?

Cheers

First time I have heard of an employer doing it that way. My employer gives us a company C/C for hotels, flights etc. And I know a lot of other employers do the exact same.

I surmised thats the way it is usually done ??? Not making you get one off your own back then pay it off for you every month. Seems a bit weird to me.

I cannot see your responsible employer telling you to get a credit card. Why dont you just get a visa debit card. It is just like a normal debit card except it works everywhere they accept visa. Or why would you employer not give you a company credit card for such things?

    Hello,

www.topcashback.co.uk are giving £25 for a successful Vanquis application.

Check out the Sub Prime Credit Card thread for other lenders.

One thing to watch though is that, if successful, credit limits are typically fairly low - £250 - to start with.

It may be worth asking if your employer will advance you money to cover the expenses?

my company employees around 40,000 people world wide seems easier for them to pay expenses rather than having to manage credit cards for it's employees,

It's funny but I have never worked for a company that has had company cc's I have always been able to avoid till now.

£250 is more than sufficent, only 2 nights a month for the rest of the year, and the company will not advance money, like I said 40,000 people worls wide, lucky to get paid at all!

First time I have heard of an employer doing it that way.
Lots of companies expect individuals to get their own card. Certainly in the IT sector.
Why dont you just get a visa debit card.
Because then you have to bank roll the employer.
If you put it on a credit card then generally you can claim your expenses to pay it off before the statement date.
Lots of employers work like this.
Or why would you employer not give you a company credit card for such things?
Andy - my employer used to issue company Barclaycards, but they had to employ an administrator to reconcile the expense claims to statements.
By making people claim for their own expenses on their own cards, they saved money.
Now you could argue that having more expensive consultants spend time doing claims did not save money, but that's not the way the "bean counters" work when looking for cost savings. They don't count the hour or so every person spends after a trip doing theiir expenses, but they do look at saving the administrators wage.

I find it suprising that people who've worked for a few organisations seem to assume the whole world works the same.
Luckily I've exerienced both, so I guess I'm a bit more open minded.

My employer has arrangements for people who are credit constrained and also supplies cash advances in some circumstances.
So you never know, the employer might have some arrangements if you ask.

Fair enough. I don't think its right though. That an employer demands you get a C/C !!! to pay for this. Either THEY should give you an advance to cover your expenditure OR a company C/C... That surely shouldn't be too hard for them to do that.

There are over 200000 in my company and that is what happens for us.

Shouldn't expect the employee to do all the running round and whappin it on to your C/C..even if it is paid off before the due date. I think thats pretty irresponsible of the company. Only my honest opinion.

I don't think anyone demands you get a credit card.
But many pay expenses in arrears.
I'm sure if you wanted to pay it out of savings that would be fine.

Are you objecting to using credit or getting paid in arrears?
That surely shouldn't be too hard for them to do that.
I'm not defending them, but my company said they needed to pay someone to sort this out (reconcile statements to expense claims).
Are one of your or your colleagues prepared to give up your job, so they can employ an administrator?
    No? thought not..
There are over 200000 in my company and that is what happens for us.
Ah right, one administrator for that many is not an issue.
If you have to pay someone for 100 people, then the cost is an issue.
Shouldn't expect the employee to do all the running round
What do you mean "running round"?
CAn they do expense claims by telepathy then :rotfl:
I do mine in work time whilst I'm being paid, so have no issue with it.
I think thats pretty irresponsible of the company. Only my honest opinion.
    Well it's very common.
If you were in my industry you'd be consider a very awkward person if you made a fuss and you'd accelerate yourself to the top of the redundancy list with that attitude.
Just my honest reflection of what I've experienced in the workplace.
If you have GENUINE issues then my employer would do what they could to help, but you do come across as just being awkward and not having any genuiine reasons for doing what loads of other people do.

Personally I applied for a cash adavnce at 0% and have it sitting in my bank account.
I use my credit card for cashback, so I'm winning on all sides.
but I never acheived that by being difficult with my employer.

If you are working for a company you should NOT be expected to get a C/C to fund work trips. A company C/C fair enough.

Not being awkward at all. You are obviously in a different job to me. No one where I work would dream of forking out for a company trip on their own C/C or savings then get it back in arrears.

If thats the way your company do it, then there isn't much you can actually do it.

But it is a lot different for me. Just because I don't fall into line with your ideas, doesn't mean to say you are right.
