They've dug up my drive !

Hi All,

I contacted the water board via email to ask them to come and read my meter (which is situated at the top of my drive) as I was not able to remove the cover. I asked them to read the meter or fix the cover to the meter.

I arrived home to discover that they have dug a 1 meter patch out of my drive, replaced the water meter (which was only installed 5 years ago) with a new one and poorly reconcreted over ... leaving the drive a mess.

I didnt give them permission to do this and they did not inform me that they were going to do so

Anybody know legally where I stand on this ? Is it not criminal damage ?

Comments appreciated.

I think they are legally allowed to have access to the water meter but as it is on your driveway they should have written to you first to let you know they were going to do it. I don't think you are allowed to object and you don't need to be in when they do it. I'm not 100% sure but I think it's not their responsibility either to ensure the concrete so that it matches the rest. As long as they have done it thats all thats required.

Not sure where you live but Anglian Water will come around a couple of weeks after they have fitted the meter to reinstate the ground to how it was they use a temporary solution in the meantime , however they should get permission if it is on private land unless it is an emergency.
