Changing conventional boiler to new combi

Options
Hello,

This is my first post although I have been an avid user for just over a year now!

My fiance and I have recently purchased our first home in East London. It needs a little bit of work. One of the first things we need to do is to change the boiler from the conventional type (hot water tank, cylinder etc) to a new combi boiler.

I have had various quotes which all seem to be around £2500.00. The best one in my opinion is the following:

boiler install Upgrade
Installation of new Vaillant Ecotec plus 837
Inhibitor installed
Relocation of boiler + pipe work rerouting
1 -2 Days Labour
Magna Clean installed (optional extra 85)
Remove old cylinder
Remove old water tank
Removal of old boiler
Wireless programmer
Thermostat
Thermostatic radiator valves
6 Radiators to be installed
All pipe work to be flushed and cleaned
5 year labour and parts warranty.
Local authority informed and Gas Safety Certificate issued

Total cost = 2650

I think this is reasonable but not having dealt with plumbers before, I would like a more experienced viewpoint.

The plumbers are acetime plumbers - has anyone used them before?

Thanks

very good price personally. I've been quoted similar by a couple of installers and that's without any radiator work

Good evening: your quote does not include a chemical (or preferably a power) flush)...absolutely essential. Would also recommend a scale inhibitor. Quality of programmers can vary so have the brand specified (we prefer Honeywell products).Very cheap price for a conversion to a sealed system for London tbh...are you supplying the rads?

As always, try to get quotes from RGIs recommended to you by a source you trust.

Why do you want a combi boiler? Have you ever lived with one? I have twice and I hate them! Bath fills really slowly!

You won't have this problem with an 837.

But you should have had the water pressure/flow rate checked by the proposed installer to see if you have enough to warrant an 837.

Easily said - current one is in a rented property. But this is a common problem so worth considering and not dismissing with a throwaway remark.

    Touche.

As opposed to a throwaway remark that all combis are rubbish as you've a sample of two in your extensive experience.

The common problem is skinflint landlords(and also some house oweners themselves) wanting the cheapest possible solution. Pretty much any household could utilise a combi if they so wished, assuming it was sized and installed appropriately. But that takes time and money and a decent installer which someone keen to make a profit(or spend as little as possible) is going to give short shrift to all 3. And thats why they have to wait a bit longer for their bath. The combi though, is doing what it was built to do.

Woby tide - Where exactly in the above does it say "all combis are rubbish"?

I just don't understand why anyone would want a combi boiler when the standard type work well (and in my experience, better!) And you get an airing cupboard :j

Some people want a conventional boiler with a large store and an airing cupboard
Some people want water on demand and don't want an airing cupboard/water tank taking up space they could use for something else.

All boilers are only as good as their installation/expectations whether it's a combi or a conventional/system
