Unhappy with Talktalk...do i migrate or not?

hi. i recently had to sign up to a new 18-month contract with TT from december 2009 simply because i have to move in to a new address which is almost beside my old one.
it has been so many calls and emails since (regarding complaining of my broadband speeds and frankly i have given up on it) i am not happy with my speeds, drop in connections, etc. (having well aware of issues such as length of line to BT exchange, etc.)
since i have done absolutely everything and since i am not "convinced" and happy with TT's services i want to break-out from my contract and be able to migrate to a different provider.
my questions are:
can i migrate or not even if my 18-month contract is not finished? and can i do it without any disruption of my bb services? do i have the right to refuse paying the disconnection/cessation fee if i wasn't happy the service? can i demand a sort of compensation? what "alternative" broadband+landline proveder to Talktalk can you guys recommend? (i'm thinking of moving to Virgin media if they are any good).
Please Help!

It seems odd that there has been such a persistent problem so close to your old address which (presumably) didn't have a problem - is the connection dropping the main thing that's going wrong?
It might be a fault on your line which can be quite difficult to get fixed and may not be solved by moving provider - have you tried calling 17070 to do a quiet line test?
You can migrate from TalkTalk though - the charge is the number of months left in your contract x the monthly cost (so if you paid £5 a month and there were 5 months left - £25).
It's capped at £70 though so for you it'll likely be £70.
Alternatives-wise Virgin might be a good bet if it is your ADSL at fault (as long as it's not Virgin National) - what are your other options?0
