No offence but you can see from a 'distance' the difference between plastic cheese (hint: it looks like rubber and is a ridiculously unnatural colour) in white bread and real cheese in 'real' bread, no manhandling needed.[/QUOTE

No offence taken :D You and this headteacher obviously have better vision skills than me. I'd be blowed if I could observe a sandwich lying flat in a lunchbox from some distance and be able to tell. Anyway, please define real bread. And for that matter real cheese. ( hint, some brown bread is white flour dyed brown )
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
  • You probably won't be allowed peanut butter - there's always someone about to go into anaphylactic shock because there's a smear of Sunpat on the door handle. (Not being facetious, there are some in DD2's school, one whom was nearly dead before the dinner lady realised the child next to him had pb sarnies)
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

  • i understand what they are doing as they are trying to tackle obesity, that being said they cannot single out specific children as this could be classed as discrimination.
it is really starting to annoy me, the schools are preaching about healthy diets etc. My DD has just turned 6, i have recently been to see doctors about her weight (she is the same weight as our 3 year old son!) she is absolutely tiny, size 2-3 fits her perfect in the waist. after lots of tests etc the dr's say she is fine, and that is just how she is meant to be and we have to give her 'healthy' fatty foods to try and fill her out.

what scared me the most was when we were eating sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago, DD loves the roast chicken skin (i can't stand it personally) that is until recently. When i asked her why she didn't it she said ''it's the fattiest part of the chicken and i'm on a diet'' 6 Years old can you believe it!! i don't diet, im fine with the way i am (not overweight not underweight) so i know she hasn't got this from me,

if she carries on like that i just know i am going to have trouble with her.

Which is a mathematical impossibility as he'd have to be taller than everyone including himself ;)

I was told by the consultant that it meant if there were 100 children, my son would be the tallest and the heaviest, so how can that be a mathematical impossibility? Sorry if I sound thick, but I really don't understand. He was on the highest centile for both height and weight, so how can it mean that he is taller than everybody including himself? Surely somebody has to be at the top of the centiles?

ARGH - my biggest bug bear. My kid, my control on his diet, no-one else's.

My current grind is that he goes in with a healthy lunch and is only given 15 minutes to eat it before the next shift come in. How is a 5 year old supposed to have a decent meal in that time?!

    You are not being thick...;)

Look at another way, if your son was the tallest and heaviest it would mean that he'd be taller than 99% (99th percentile) of the 100 children...i.e. he was in the 1%. If he was 100th percentile then he'd be taller than 100% of the 100 children..i.e. taller than all of the 100 children which he clearly isn't because he's not taller than himself.

It is called the national child measurement program and yes you do have to consent to your child taking part.

    .

Actually, you don't have to give consent to have it done, you have to give consent to opt-out of it.

    Right, I have the solution.

For end of term presents this year, lets make sure we give all our teachers

bottles of water with ribbons round them
    fruit baskets
    bags of nuts

    and other healthy options.

None of these boxes of chocolates or bottles of wine anymore - far too unhealthy.

One Mum was saying that her child was sent home with a letter saying she was ONE POUND (yes, 16 ounces) overweight. The letter detailed a long list of illnesses that can be caused by obesity.

I'd not be happy that they're weighing and monitoring the children, do they not have to ask permission before they start doing things like this?

Just realised my question may have been answered, haven't read the whole thread yet!
