When you dial a call via 18866 there is a 1p connection charge. That means that when the call is actually connected that as well as the price per minute you pay 1p for the call to be connected. The exception to this is when you make a call via 18866 to a UK number starting 01 or 02. In this instance you pay a 1p connection charge, but you don't pay for how long you speak for. That means that for UK number called via 18866 that you are charged the connection fee of 1p, but you are not charged for the timeyou speak, ie UK calls via 18866 cost 1p each for you to speak for however long you wish to!
You are correct that with a BT line you just dial 18866 to access cheap calls. Be very careful not to dial 11866, because if you do you will connect to a Directory Enquiry service and that will cost you dearly.
Correct in that just dialling 0845 and 0870 will route those call via BT.
You might want to consider joining TalkTalk (on the Talk 1+ plan), see the link below. This plan gives you free evening and weekend local and national calls and 30 minutes worth of calls to mobile pe month, for 12 months.

Plus, with a bt line i assume i just dial 18866 to access the cheap calls. So, in order to stick with bt for 0870 or 0845 numbers i assume i just dial these as normal?????0
