Burning smell in one room

Check your light fitting. Take the bulb out and the shade off. Sniff the shade fitting collar. The bulb holder and collar can be "cheap" and give off a bad smell but only when the light has been on for some time. Took one person (not me) months to find where the smell was coming from. Just a possibility. Surprised a high charging leccy hasn't suggested this or are they hanging back for a job ?0

Lancastrian beat me to it. That was my first thought, it's happened in my mum and dad's house, in one bedroom a ceiling lightshade fitting was giving off a fishy smell - strangely - and we could see that the plastic had gone brown from heat when we worked out what it was."All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
