Seriously don't bother with the Popeye village thing unless you want a laugh at how to put together a tacky tourist attraction - we went because it was part of an organised walk from our hotel. Its basically the relics of the old film set with very little to actually do apart from watch some videos or see a children's entertainer.
There's a nice boat trip in the north west corner to some sea caves which is worth doing and the evening festivals are often worth visiting.
Buses are very good for getting about.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
Have a look on trip advisor for more comments/advice.
I went about 7 years ago and it poured down - I was also told it was the worse weather for 50 years - lol. But there were sunny days too and I got a tan just walking round. Get an organised coach trip sorted - cheaper outside your hotel than those arranged by reps. I always think its best to go with a tour as you see places and hear about things you wouldnt otherwise have tackled or known.
The pavements were dreadful there, it feels like some areas are still recovering from bomb damage - a few people had bad falls whilst I was over there, so take some flat shoes and be careful where you walk. Its not a green or pretty country really. Valetta is beautiful and the sea is great. The history is very interesting and the people very friendly.0 -
Malta is not green. It's an island in the Med. Sandstone everywhere. Most buildings are made of sandstone.
Roads / pavements are different now from how they used to be. Malta has been in the EU since 2004.0 -
I stayed in the Dolmen a few years ago - lovely hotel with fab food and a short walk from the bus station. As others have said easy way to get around is by bus although the first time we went there were 10 of us (including two babies in prams) so every time we wanted to go somewhere we got a minibus from a little office in Bugibba - price was so cheap and much more convenient.
Definitely go to the beach in Mellieha Bay, Medditareno park which has dolphin, sea lion and parrot shows (bus stop outside). Popeye village is a waste of time IMO.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
Must warn you of the amount of 'dog' mess' around Harbour.0

The Dolmen is a smashing hotel with lots of bars and restaurants around."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools"

The best beach in Malta is at Gnejna Bay. You won't find many tourists there, nor signs leading to it. (The locals don't want them to find it).0
