upgrade ram in old computer, help needed please

Hello,
I would like to upgrade the ram in my old computer as it struggles a bit these days, crucial scanner says what I have is this:

Currently installed memory:

512MB
DDR PC3200
256MB
DDR PC3200
256MB
DDR PC3200
1GB
DDR PC2700

I can't afford to get 3x1gb which it recommends, I have £40-£50 max to spend and was thinking of getting 1gb & 512mb to replace the 256 ones.
It's an old advent T11 computer if that helps?

Does my thinking sound OK?

Thanks
Annie

Well, you already have 2GB of RAM installed.
Most people would think that is sufficient for running XP, unless you are running some very demanding programs.

It has trouble with watching video streaming.....it shuts down and reboots its self so I thought more ram might help.

Have I got that wrong then?

It's not just the operating system that's important, but also whether you are running 32 or 64 bit, as 32 will only recognise so much RAM and anything beyond that would be wasted. [I think that's right but am happy to be corrected by the techies]

The computer running slow almost certainly has NOTHING to do with the RAM in it. It doesnt have matching pairs which isnt ideal but you certainly have plenty of it

Id recommend looking at whats running ~
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM FULL SCAN then click SCAN
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds

    reboot

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

    Its a 32bit

Crucial said it can take 4gb if that makes a difference?

Did all sorts of scans first before the ram idea, didn't show anything.
and the computer its self runs fine, its only trying to watch something on youtube or a tv prog that it has any problems with.

Off to do hijack this now incase it helps

'All sorts of scans' ~ was malwarebytes included in this?
