    Who was the company?.....BT themselves!!

    I've had exactly the same experience with BT. They tried to convince us that our TPS registration had run out and had to be renewed to stop them calling. I confirmed with the TPS that this was total rubbish.

    These companies call, implying they are from SKY, offering you a warranty on your SKY Box. If they got your phone number out of the phone book, they will know your name, of course!

    But, if you are ex-directory and they ring random numbers, they will not know your name! That happened to me! The guy asked me how my Sky Box so I asked him what was the name of the person he wanted to speak to! He said the SKY BOX owner! So, I asked who is the owner? He did not know of course! That was pretty much the end of our conversation!

    The same thing happened when I got a new mobile phone. In the case of mobile phones, these companies know you have got a new mobile phone number because they know when number ranges are issued! They use that information to entice you away from your mobile phone suppliers insurance saying their insurance is better!

    How odd - the person who called me this morning talked in almost exactly the same way that Sigababy has written his/her reply. Could've been the same person.

    @sigababy

    If a company rings up asking me if I have a SKY box and would like a warranty (and I was not TPS registered) I would be civil and courteous.

    The problem is, these companies talk to you as if they know you have a SKY BOX, but don't have any idea if you do or not! They try to give the impression they are associated with SKY (when they are not). I think it is called Confusion Marketing!

    If you were to call me and speak in the manner you write here, then I am sorry, but I would class you as a Confusion Marketeer and would probably hang up the phone on you, just likie I am hanging up now...

    I'm sure this was on Watchdog a while ago about people ringing up offering warranties saying that they were calling from Sky, when it actually wasn't Sky digital, it was some other company called Sky. I think they ripped some people off if I remember rightly.

    might be satelite assured. I heared that they have changed their name countless times, because of charging money and not providing the service to their customers...
    even Sky was advising people not to sign with them... :D

    Was it not one of the random warranty sales folks that try random numbers

    Pretty sure Sky don't do sales calls from the 0844 number
    sky recently changed all their numbers, including customer services, to 0844....
