Removing tar from paintwork

Looking for advice on removing very very heavy tar, road spatter from the side and rear of my car. Have tried various brands but non really come up to much. I live in the country so roads are ofter just patched up hence the amount of tar I get. Just washed it and it still looks like it has a two tone paint job! Any tried and trusted methods appreciated.

In my experience, products marketed as 'tar removers' seem to be quite effective. If they don't appear to work, maybe what appear to be tar spots are something else?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Look at ideal world and qvc for showroom shine0

A drop of petrol will remove tar, just apply to tar, wipe off, clean and polish afterwards.;)
Obviously use care with it.0 -
Good suggestion inactive, tried a wee bit and seems to work v well, also just tried WD40 and that works too! thanks for all the replies.0

Agree with the WD40, I use it for the bike, although it will leave a residue which is not always easy to get rid of.0
