Just found this article on The Register. Now offers "cloud-based detection"

I have now installed it and trying it out.

I downloaded from file hippo, it says version 10 in the program list but version 9 from the program itself

What version number does your say? (mines 9.0.0.422)

Ive uninstalled and reinstalled and its worked properly now (Still weird that though!)

Same here RIK, downloaded yesterday through the pop up window and it still says product version 9.0.0.422 Date 09/03/2010 ?

I'm assumimg I did not update it properly, think I might wait for a few days untill the "niggles" have been sorted.

No, uninstall it, reboot and install the new download

Youll KNOW its version 10 as it looks different

When you run the new program (without un-installing V9), you have to select "Repair/Update" when the options window opens. The default is "Modify" which does not install the new version.

As Rik says, V10 looks different, so it's easy to check if it has installed correctly.

I use Avira all the time because according to www.av-comparatives.org/ Avira has the best detection rate compared to other AV apps. I didn't know Avira was releasing a program update. Thanks for the info!

I've just updated to Avira 10 (by selecting repair/update as mentioned above) and then ended up having to manually update the virus definitions.

Anyway, I ran a scan and it told me there were 15 hidden objects (as below) - should I be worried?

My understanding was that feature is only available in the paid for versions.

It doesn't seem much different from v9, other than scanning takes around 15% longer, and they've cosmetically tweaked the UI such that it now looks scruffier, and more amateurish.
