Mmmm, maybe not quite as good as I first thought, it would appear to be the standing charges that are different from last night (to me at least)

Still seems like a good deal though, just not as good as it appeared last night.

About 10% more for me (in the SW) than I am currently paying with Eon. Seems to vary greatly region to region.

From BGs Online Saver Dual Fuel w/ EnergySmart, the difference for me with 2100kWh elec and 8250kWh gas consumption was £80 a year, but then I'd be forced to pay a fixed DD (instead of variable, just what I owe each month), and only get a quarterly bill, and I'm getting £40 after the first year on EnergySmart. £40 a year saving isn't worth the plunge for me at the moment, but might consider it next year :)

I think you will find the billing is monthly with Ovo, looking at the sample bill on their site it says "this months charges".. http://www.ovoenergy.com/help-advice/reading-your-bill.html

Must admit, I like the way their bills are laid out.

Ooh... Didn't realise that! :) I really love monthly invoicing, makes things a lot easier to keep an eye on. Thanks for that!

I'm seriously tempted to go Ovo, might do a few more sums tonight and sign up if it still looks good.

Just repeated the comparison that I did in the early hours of this morning (on energyhelpline). As others have said, there must have been a mistake this morning as Ovo's tariffs are now not showing up anywhere near as cheap. From what I remember from this morning, it was showing the standing charges for both gas and elec as being the same amount, but now it's been corrected the standing charge for gas is now a lot higher.

argh I'm really confused now. I signed up on teh 18th to switch and i'll be annoyed if i miss out on the lower rates or the option to go onto a variable tarriff.
Off to call them now, anyway...
  • I should have switched last night (didn't realise the rates were wrong) now OVO are still slightly cheaper than EDF but with only £15 cashback available, whereas if I pick EDF I can get £40 through Topcashback + Nectar points from EDF, so I think that is the way to go (for me anyway)
