Speaking as a 'chav' (definition please previous poster) Jackie

"Chavs" are, "imbeciles" who do jobs like hairdressing, cleaning, bar-work and being a security guard. They live on "Pot Noodles, cheap cider and McDonald's for Sunday lunch". www.chavscum.co.uk tells us how to spot a chav: "Chavs have such a tribal dress code that you can spot one yards away! Now what makes the Chavs [sic] attire so funny is they think they are at the cutting edge of fashion... In reality they look like a bunch of !!!!!!!"

Not my opinions, quotes or definitions I hasten to add, but the above is from a book titled 'The Little Book of Chavs'.

Well you did ask - innit!

Jcorbygas, I'm actually in the process of booking my holiday to Dubai in July for a week. I know its gonna be really hot, but were really looking forward to it.

You mentioned the Arabian Courtyard, this is the hotel we were planning on booking. Its got excellent reviews on TA and seems really good value for money.

Can you recommend any other hotels for a similar price, upto £40 p/night??

I've recently come across Jumeriah Rotana and Residence by Le Meridian, and am just looking into them.

Big-azza, go onto tripadvisor. co. uk.

The advice on there is invaluable. Go on the Dubai forum and ask away, thats exactly what I did. :)

Gulp! It wasn't one one of the Golden Sands apartment blocks by any chance, pls? I've still got time to change if it was!

    TIA

I stayed at the Golden Sands Apartment. It was around £30 per night but the downside was that I had to get a taxi everywhere!

Hi, sorry i missed this completely! Hope im in time.

Yes it was golden sands!! There are several blocks, we were origninally booked into block 3 i think. Anyway, we booked a king size bed apartment through Emirates. Turned up, it was old and shabby and was two singles. We were shown to another room which was just as shabby but was a double. I went to reception and kicked up a stink and we were moved to another block, i think 5, but i cant remember for sure. It was better though.

    When did you go?

I went in Feb 2009 and it was one of the cheapest hotels in dubai at around £100/nt B&B. Was part of Emirates package, but i couldnt get it any cheaper elsewhere. The only place cheaper to stay was out at sharjah or a hostel.

We found it perfectly located for central dubai, which we enjoyed walking around but generally you have to get a taxi to get anywhere interesting, such as the beach, wild wadi or ski dubai.
