were you born in the uk.

No I wasn't born in UK. I was born in Australia but I have been a British citizen and held a British passport since 1975. I actually only took up permanent residence in 2006 however.

I wrote to Sainsbury's, giving a lot of other information as they suggested, and got the SAME rejection letter today. I guess I don't fulfil the requirements as far as making up enough points goes.

I actually only wanted the card to earn extra Nectar points and I was going to pay it off in full each month (although of course I didn't tell them either of those points).

I have asked for ACTUAL DETAILS of why I was rejected, but what's the bet I just get the same form letter again. I guess they are too busy to be bothered with individual requests.

What I wonder is, though, is this credit refusal going to be an issue in the future?
• A new Sainsbury store has opened near me, and it has a petrol station.

I got myself a Nectar card and then applied online for a Sainsbury card.
I was rejected.

I've always followed the advice on this site, and have never been rejected before.

I contacted the applications department, who put me through to the folks making the assessment - a man explained that the problem stemmed from an Experian report.

I paid for an Experian report, which contained absolutely nothing negative - any cards were paid off within the interest free period, and I'd set up a direct debit for the minimum amount in every case.

I then did the same with Equifax and Callcredit, in case their details were inaccurate - nope.

I called Sainsbury's advertised number again, and advised that there were no issues with my credit history. I was once again tranferred to the assessment dude who couldn't understand why my application had been rejected. "The best advice I can offer", he told me, "is to reapply in at least a months' time"

I did - eight weeks later. Guess what happened?

*REJECTED*

It doesn't bother me greatly - it just means they'll lose my custom - but I can't understand why Sainsbury are the first to refuse me for credit despite my perfect and lovely history.

Can you help?

It could be for a number of reasons. Some of the common items assessed are:
• How long have you lived at your current address?
• Are you on the electoral register?
• What's your income?
• How long have you been in your current job?
• What are your current credit card limits?
• What are the balances on your credit cards?
• Do you have any other borrowing?

There will be other items I've missed. If you provide the answers to the above, then we may be able to offer some suggestions as to why you were declined.

Does that include (part of) your childhood?
What are your current credit card limits? £11,000 is the highest
What about the lowest? And all those inbetween? ie the question related to your total available credit.

No mortgage then? Do you own your home outright or maybe you rent?
I’ve held my credit rating close to my finances
What does that mean?

Do you currently have a card issued by BoS?

By the above, do you mean that one of your cards has a limit of £11,000 - or is that the total of the limits across all cards? If you're just referring to one card, what are the limits on your other cards?

What's the limit on your Barclaycard?
