Blackberry Bold 9700 / Orange Maps

Hi, last week my brand spanking new Blackberry Bold 9700 arrived from Orange after ordering it over the phone, having been unhappy with O2's poor attempt to keep me as a customer (after five years' loyal service and having never missed a bill payment). They gave it to me free (handset only), 24 month contract, £25 a month for the first 18 months (£30 for final 6), with 900 mins, unlimited texts and internet, and also I thought I had agreed that this came with free Orange Maps. However, upon receiving my handset there was/is no Orange Maps application (and yes I've tried checking all the folders and turned "show all" on). I've looked on their website (Googled "Orange maps") and it says it is available for the old Bold 9000, but there is no picture/mention of the new one (9700). I was tempted to install the software anyway and see if it's compatible, but thought I'd ask on here first to see if anyone else has had this problem/has got a solution before I started messing around.

Any help much appreciated

Just use Google Maps which is better and still runs off the 9700's GPS

Does it have turn-by-turn navigation though, as I used the satnav on my old Blackberry for driving purposes only?

I asked if it had turn by turn navigation though, which it doesn't I'm afraid as the "navigation" column isn't checked for anything other than the Android platform. Driving directions is OK but it doesn't operate like a dedicated satnav where you can just listen to the "in 400 metres turn left" instructions for complete hands-free navigation

i use google maps and don't get voices on it... which i presume is what turn by turn means...?! ok for me as i have a seperate sat nav and only use my phone when im in someone elses car/on foot...
  • It is supported...I also have a new 9700 on Orange and I called them when I found the same issue as you. Just download it and it works. It's really fantastic, very useful indeed. Turn-by-turn is excellent, kept perfectly up to date with the whereabouts of my car.
