Going to onto contract from PAYG - strategy! haggling!

Hello All
I have been a PAYG mobile user with o2 for about 10 years and I am now looking to have a contract with them for an I-phone 3GS.
Can anyone tell me what strategy to use to get the best deal - i.e. what to haggle over, how to haggle etc. Is it best to get a good deal over the phone with o2 or in their shops? I'd like to be able to say something like 'im interested if you include a free.......' otherwise I think I might go with orange' etc - does this work?
Any other tips?

Thanks!

If you read the iPhone thread you will see that, unfortunately, PAYG customers are not able to access the only deal that O2 will offer to existing contract customers, which is a refurb iPhone. In any case the refurbs are out of stock.

No other provider is able to haggle on the iPhone as the tariffs are set by Apple and all the shop staff will know this. You might get the shop to throw in an accessory, but TBH you will be better off just going via a cashback site or for the cheapest iPhone deals which are at Tesco (in store and by phone only)
