Defective Motherboard seems to be a generic first suggestion by those PC World clowns.

I've had (and been involved with) brazzilions of laptops over the years. I've had failed hard drives, dvd drives, power connectors, batteries, screens to replace... the list goes on and on.... but has never included a defective motherboard.

It seems every laptop they sell which goes back with a problem needs a new motherboard!

Thats exactly what I was thinking ~ if anything is wrong with it at all beyond the obvious, they seem to be taught to change the motherboard. !!!!!! is that all about???

They can charge lots of money for it.

A few years ago the GF tried to get her laptop repaired from DSGi, was given the "faulty motherboard" routine and told it would cost her close to £100 to get fixed. I took one look, it was a software issue (which took two seconds to fix) and had absolutely nothing to do with the motherboard or any other hardware problem. They are a bunch of lying scamming clowns.

If PC World do that then its technically fraud and by rights they should be taken to court. Its just plain wrong.........

Who in their right mind is going to take a massive company like PC World to court and win??????:rotfl:

People usually talk with their credit cards when it comes to companies like this. It doesn't take long for the reputation to get round. Only trouble is, for every costomer that stops using them, there are ten more waiting to get in through the door.
    They never lose..........
    Sad really......:(

If id been burned (never will as ill never deal with them), id start a website specifically to collect as many people as I could who have had similar situations with them.
Similar thing to when Microsoft got taken to court for sending out dodgy updates without 1st informing the user. Im pretty sure Microsoft are bigger than PC World

After 3 new motherboards, and a PC that still kept crashing we thrust a relentless fight on PC World. Anyway...took a while but eventually got just under £1000 out of them as compensation and to buy a new PC.

This was back in about 2003. Nice to see things have moved on!

You can also try talking to http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/ to find out where you stand. There no is 08454 04 05 06. I spoke to someone there once regarding a matter and I found the conversation relaxed and informal.

If you have to write/email PC world to make a complaint and want to get their full attention, you could mention the fact that if it isn't resolved immediately to your satisfaction, you have been advised to contact or your husband is considering contacting BBC's Watchdog programme.
