Cash point sucked money back in....

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post this but here it goes!

I used a cash point to withdraw £70 from, after entering my pin and selecting to withdraw cash the cash point was beeping as if i was pressing the worng button but i couldnt see as the sun was shining on the screen and i couldnt see properly. so I pressed the cancel button to get my card back, my card was released from the cash point and i went back to my car, as i turned around i seen the cash point sucking my money back in. so i took the number etc and when to my bank (Halifax) and they completed a form to say what had happened. I then recieved a letter saying the bank of ireland who was the provider to the cashpoint had counted the money and that they had dispensed £70 with no problems and i wouldnt be eligable for a refund.

I have no idea what to do now as £0 is alot of money to me and i cant afford to accept that its just gone! any advice would be great!

thanks

Are you sure? I wasn't aware that a cashpoint can "suck" your money back in, once it's dispensed its dispensed. Maybe you could ask to see if there's cctv at that cashpoint?

I can also confirm that the machine sucks the money back in if you don't take it quick enough. Sorry I can't be more help though.

If the money is sucked back it will be recredited eventually. If someone walking past took the cash, then the odds on a credit are about zero...

You say you actually saw it being sucked back ? Then don't worry it automatically cancels the transaction and the money does not come out of your account or is re credited straight away :)

Rushton, have you checked your account to confirm that the £70 has actually been debited?
Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.... :/
  • My card got sucked back in once and it was a right PITA as I had to cancel the card and order a new one.

I vowed after that to have 2 bank accounts so I could still access some cash.
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)

The money was debited from my account that day, and no one took the cash as i seen it go back in....

the letter from halifax bank says:

''Bank of ireland have comleted their investigation into your disputed cash machine withdrawl.

We have been advised that the ATM journal roll shows a good transaction of £70.00 and that the machine dispensed the funds with no differences recorded at the time. Unfortunatley this means the bank of ireland have declined your claim and therefore your account cannot be reimbursed with the £70. ''

so stressed! help anyone please :(

Unless you can provide any evidence to show that the money was taken back into the machine you're a bit stuck I'm afraid. They're disputing it and it's just your word against theirs.

Yes, I've had that sucking back experience too. I tried to grab the money and almost had my hand sucked in too. However, I disputed it and finally got my account credited. I was lucky the bank staff were honest at the atm point. I think your bank staff have gone to the pub with your £70.
