Help with second hand car
The guy I bought the car from says, I've had it three months and have ruined the clutch, I say it was bad before I got it and I've only driven it for about seven weeks (due to snow/holidays/sickness). I had a three month warranty but he says if he fixes it then he'll do the labour but I have to pay for the parts. Does this seem fair?
I have the original receipt which proves how few miles I've done in it.

Is this a private or trade deal?
Did he make you aware of the problem? Did you test drive the car and identify the problem?
Does the warranty cover clutches?
My opinion, assuming a lot of things, is that it is a reasonable offer.0 -

I agree.
You tested the car and the clutch was bad when you bought it, you say. Why didn't you ask him to change it then?
Neither he nor we have any idea about your driving style. Clutches can be worn very quickly with bad driving.
I think you should take his offer.0 -
I'll burn your clutch out within 5 miles if you let me...:)

I remember a neighbour of mine who had a brand new Fiesta (on motability) who burnt his clutch out after only 55 miles (took him 6 weeks of driving so you can imagine how much he didn't drive) - the squeals (of automotive pain) you could hear when he was just trying to get the car off the drive were horrendous and he drove everywhere in what sounded like 1st gear so it's obviously easily done:j:T Total Prize Value 2012 - £1835 :T:j

Whats the dealer? Sounds a very fair chap, be nice to give a garage credit for once. Most dealers would have laughed at you.
Get clutch kit from t'internet and you're sorted.0
