Well it depends on the mp3 player you have. MP3 format is obviously pretty much universal for compatibility but if your mp3 player can play other better formats then maybe that's what you should go for. As I said my mp3 player can play wma files so it's much more sensible to use that format as it's better than mp3. Same with ogg and aac, depending if your player can play them.

    Hi
You could just use wmp10 if you have it, this will rip to mp3. If you go to Tools, Options, Rip Music, and in the dropdown box, "Format" you can change it to mp3 and you can also set your bitrate.

    Hope this helps

    Download this.

I know that this download and site is a good source, but it really is a bad idea to post .exes in an open forum. It's good security/manners to let people see the site they are downloading from, and let them choose whether to proceed with the download.

An exe could contain anything, including any form of virus/malware. It's good practice to check out where you download programs from on the internet. A poster on this site yesterday linked to three different exes, saying they were programs to help with credit cards. All three programs contained keyloggers, and were classed as viruses.

I always recommend Cdex, as mentioned above. It's very easy to use and the Lame codec (best mp3 codec) comes bundled with it.

Mp3 is a great format, very well supported. You may also want to consider newer, and arguable better codecs such as AAC and Ogg Vorbis.

I personally use Ogg as it's a completely free open source format, I like to promote/use open source, free stuff. It also offers better quality to file size than mp3. I encode at a reasonably high bit rate so that it's nearly transparent in comparison to the original cd.

My favourite is Musicmatch Jukebox, but be careful - they go to a lot of trouble to try and lure you into paying for Jukebox Plus. (7 days free trial etc) Just stick to your guns and go for the free jukebox.

Sorry but I disagree! PC users should check all downloads before use for themselves and PC security is very much a personal thing. Some users don't even run a decent firewall or an up to date anti-virus but that is their choice if they want to operate in that way. The reason that I gave the download link in that way is because that is an older version which is still free. If you download from the main site, you have to purchase a license. The site map does not give the option to obtain that older version. If users don't want to download an exe, then that is their choice.

 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:

Sorry you feel that way. I was pointing out what is ultimately good manners/security sense in an open forum. Rather than doing this in future, I will report these to the abuse team. I know for a fact that they will remove EVERY instance of an exe posted on these boards once reported. They also realise the security implications of having these here.

I think the point that Rex was trying to make, is that a link to an .exe can be less helpful and is generally not good practise, especially on a forum where the majority of users are looking for advice (and aren't always very technical).

Or if you do provide the link, firstly produce a link to the site so people can check it out
    http://www.dbpoweramp.com

And then a full path link
    http://www.dbpoweramp.com/bin/dMC-r10.exe

  • I feel it is important that we do stress the importance of internet security and the danger of linking straight to .exe files

This isn't to say that espresso has anything other than good intentions and we appreciate the reply, but please link to the website where possible and i urge everyone to ensure that their pc security is on and up to date.
