How about a sliding door, or a folding door of some description? That's Numberwang!0

I did consider a sliding door but I can't say I am over keen on them!0

Is it ok to alter building reg plans after they have been passed - as long as the amendments still meet the regs?Incidentally if you do "have" to do it - the work around is to let them put it up that way round, and once the building regs people have been to inspect - reverse it -the paper pushers are happy . and us who live in the real world
Sorry still cant see your problem .
Do the work correctly , get it passed
Then , change the door to what suits you.0 -
Hmmm, looks like it will have to open outwards then, although it does seem really silly to meet regs and then turn it around. My mum is actually in a wheelchair and if I put the door opening outwards then she will not be able to access the bathroom from the guest bedroom as it will block the hallway!
Ask for a derogation from Building Regs, to permit disabled access???Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
"your" house do it how you like0

"But this will mean that the door will open into a hallway which is only a little wider than the door itself"
Did your well paid architect not realise this and design your extension accordingly? What else has he not realised?0 -
Oh don't get me started.........
The architect managed to design stairs with a head height of 1.5 meters
He put a doorway and two steps where there is a beam and so you have to duck down and can't actually open the door because it hits the beam.
He has designed a kitchen with no drainage because he put no sink in the design!
I could go on...............and on...........and on..............
I will be really glad to see the back of him, once this is through regs I am hopfully never going to see him again! :beer:0 -
Now you come to mention that a brand new build, a BTL prop i bought a few years ago has its bathroom door to open outwards plus all plugs are at Wheel chair height"....never give it any thought until this post..now i know.....and yep my hallway isnt much wider than the door..i did live in this property for some time while my own home was having a refurbishment,,,,cant say the door openeing outwards gave me any problems or made any difference really.....0

Are there any regs which force you to have a door? If not, dont have one then fit it as soon as the lovelies from building control have been and gone!0
-
Surely once the building inspector has been you can reverse the door as suggested above?"...IT'S FRUITY!"0
