BT broadband - help needed?

:)We have got a BT voyager 210 ASDL router ( wired) which we use to connect our old cronky computer to the internet.

Is it possible to connect my daughters computer to the internet using the router aswell so we can both be on the internet at the same time?

If so how?

Many Thanks in advance

Swampmonster :)

you only have one lan port on that model , I suggest its easiest to go and buy a new wireless ADSL router and use that to connect ( if you ask BT for a new one it will tie you in to a new minimum term of at least 12 months)

I just took a look at the specs - 1 ethernet and one USB. I doubt they can be used at the same time but check your docs.

There is an option (internet connection sharing) but you'd need the "master" machine on whenever the other wanted to connect and you'd probably need an extra ethernet card in the "master" machine too.

IMO your simplest answer is to buy a new ADSL router with 4 ethernet ports and maybe wireless too or try to con one out of your ISP

  • Many thanks for all your replies.

I really don't understand computers so please can someone in the know answer the following. thanks X

    Question one; -

My daughters laptop IS wi-fi enabled but the desktop IS NOT, so my daft question is if I do get a wireless router can I use it with the non wi-fi enabled desktop?

    Question 2; -

I have also got a second BT wired voyager 210 router if this helps. Could I use both routers at the same time?

    Many Thanks

Most if not all Wireless routers have four wired (Ethernet ports) in addition to the wireless channel.

Not sure about BT home hubs.

No you cannot use two routers (more accurately described as modem/routers) on the same line.
