just taken sons car for a new sill as it failed mot early before 31 march, only to be told the mot is now invalid along with the insurance,even though the insurance doesn't run out officially until next november, just as well I haven't been stoped by police on number plate reconition, as it would show no mot or insurance, good luck

The insurance company called and said that they need the documentation one of which, was a up-to-date MOT certificate.

I coughed up and said, I didnt realise the one I had expired in November 2009 when checking yesterday.

She immediately referred to the clause I mentioned earlier and said we cannot provide cover and will send out a letter to that effect. My option is to write a complaint letter to the company initially, to which they must reply. If i am still not satisfied with the result, I have the option to refer this matter to the ombudsman.

I am shaking like mad wanting to scream and cry. I really need some help and advice on how to proceed. If I have no option whatsoever, then ill go and hang myself. I cant afford this.

You complain and then if its upheld you complain to the Ombudsman
I'm not sure how the ombudsman will procced. Their guidance states that MOT's should prevent a pay out but that is under the unroadworthy clause.

You were in breach of a direct term and it wouldnt surprise me if they are allowed to void the policy.

Firstly, don't do anything stupid - this will turn out to be an expensive lesson but nothing worth getting this upset over.

And now onto my second, more serious, point - how can you say you cannot afford this when in another thread you are planning on taking out a £10k loan for a new car. It just means that you will not have the payout to put towards a new car so you may have to settle for cheaper car? Am I mistaken?
