Normal for Insurance Comp to want a copy of your driving licence?

Hi there, After a bit of advice please. Is it normal for an Insurance Company to want a photocopy of your and any named drivers, driving licence, before they'll insure you? I'll add that this is to insure a small van and both drivers are over 40 and hold full licences. Was just a bit surprised at the request, as not had to…

It can be checked with the DVLA but the DVLA make a charge for accessing the data so very few companies check each and every case.

The only company I know who do are Chaucer and they also check the claims database
