Normal for Insurance Comp to want a copy of your driving licence?
Hi there,
After a bit of advice please.
Is it normal for an Insurance Company to want a photocopy of your and any named drivers, driving licence, before they'll insure you? I'll add that this is to insure a small van and both drivers are over 40 and hold full licences.
Was just a bit surprised at the request, as not had to do it before.
Thanks

A few companies / brokers request copies of driving licences either randomly or for all clients. (Virtually all companies request them for theft or fire claims).
In my experience requesting a photocopy of a driving licence will reveal a conviction (Normally a speeding) in about 1 in 6 cases. The general responses from customers when you point out they did not declare the conviction are normally they did not think speeding needs to be declared or they forgot0 -

Can't this be checked electronically with DVLA?
Would've thought that'd be cheaper than the man hours required to check paper copies if it can.0
