Leaving 3 - do you get refund on line rental once PAC used?

I ordered the Desire from tmobile today. My current PAC with 3 expires a day before the Desire comes out, so I have to wait until after I get my new phone to request a new PAC from 3.

The tmobile guy said that with tmobile as soon as the PAC is used the contract ends and any remaining line rental is refunded (providing out of initial contract of course). Does anyone know if this is the same with 3? I want to know if they'll charge me an extra 30 days for the notice period. My alternative is to change my SIM to PAYG now then request the new PAC.

30 days notice normally starts when you request a PAC so no refund but no extra charge either, does depend on the network though. If your PAC expires then you will need to ask for another and a new 30 days will start then.

Thanks. I just got off the phone with 3 customer services and he seemed to be saying the same thing, that I would get charged for the full 30 days.

Does this seem wrong to anyone? In my view, they are effectively charging me for up to 30 days line rental for a product I can no longer use, considering I won't even have a number once the port is done.

He also seemed to be making out that tmobile were telling porkies when they said that their policy was to cancel the contract (and refund the difference) as soon as the PAC is used regardless of when it is during the 30 day period.

I think you will find that your contract requires that you give 30 days notice of termination. You could choose to use your PAC on day 27 or 28 of its validity and you would not lose anything.

Its contract term in just about every networks paperwork. You must give 30 day notice to quit.

What about if you change your contract to a PAYG? I believe with 3 that can be done instantly. Would that be a was of bypassing the 30 days notice as 30 days notice on PAYG is mostly meaningless?

Anyone else experienced the tmobile claim that a port away from them would terminate a contract and effectively override the 30 days notice and be eligible for a refund on remaining line rental?

Why not order the desire to come at the end of your next 30 day notice period. I cant see any phone companies "refunding"

TBH, in my excitement to get the new phone, I hadn't considered that. I haven't had a new phone in years and i'm quietly excited to take delivery of my new phone this weekend.

Apart from that, the bitter sceptic in me says the order is placed now with the discount applied, if I try to arrange for the handset to come 30 days late, I'm sure something bad will happen, like price plan removed, discount unavailable, handset out of stock. This is what 5 years with 3 customer service has done to me :p
