O2 Deposit - How Reliable?

So we got my bf an iPhone today at the Apple store and O2 required a £150 deposit for 3 months before they would agree contract. We have put this down and the man in the store said the £150 will be credited to his bill after 3 months... how reliable are O2 at doing this? Should I keep my receipt safe and expect a fight??

I had a contract with O2 that required a £100 deposit around 4 years ago and I had no problems at all, they credited the money back on my sixth bill as promised.

I have found O2 customer service to be generally very good and efficient all round.

I'd echo what underground says. They made me give £150 last year on the same terms as you, and gave it back as promised. They dock it from your bill(s) until it's gone, but my bills never go over £35 so it would've took ages, so I asked for a cheque instead - they sent that very quickly with no problems, all contact done online.

Be aware that it is apparently 3 consecutive payments despite the fact they don't tell you that - therefore if you miss one/pay late then your 3 starts again.
