As reported quite often on this forum the manufacturer will often be more sympathetic in these situations. In the case of the soap drawer I would say it was a crucial part, i.e you cant really use the appliance without it. Unfortunately having purchased from Comet that option is not open to the op.

If anything then the moral of this is "NEVER BUY FROM COMET".

    I know I won't now having read this.

Off topic I know but I want to ask..... Do Comet send out the manufacturer to undertake repairs or do they have their own "jack of all appliance makes" service force? I am quite intrigued with this as the Miele warrantee is 5 or 10 years parts and labour. One of the conditions though is that only Miele service engineers must attend their appliances else the warrantee is void. Comet do sell Miele so how do they get round this?

Comet have there own service centre and service engineers. I think it all depends on the item purchased as to whether their own guys do it or not. e.g laptops would probably go back to manufacturer. It all depends on the agreement they have with the manufacturer...all i can say is that with hotpoint / indesit / cannon appliances they deal with at their own repair centre for the first year, they may have a different arrangement with meile.
What i find ironic is that many of the posts on this forum complain when a retailer fobs them off with the manufacturer, Comet aren't doing it this time, unfortunately for the op. (although judging by Hotpoint warranty terms and conditions the damage prob isnt covered)

I can confirm that Acer do indeed go back to Acer and it has to be arranged (a long and painful experience - and that was just giving my name and address) via Acer

I'd never buy an Acer again either!!

We bought a dishwasher last year when we had a new kitchen. It was delivered by April 10 2009, but wasn't installed and ready for use until early May 2009.
It works fine, but I have noticed cracks on 2 of the least used option buttons on the front of the machine. Then a crack appeared across the top of the door across the full width at the far left hand side. The dishwasher still works, but by the looks of the crack - it is shaped and seems to have happened across what may be a fixing point (an engineer could tell me better) - it won't be long before it breaks off.
I have contacted hotpoint who fobbed me off and told me it was my fault for using chemicals to clean. I have gotten past this hurdle (no chemicals used) and they gave a central number for comet (we bought it online from them via Credit card) so we could contact them and arrange for an engineer to look at the appliance. After speaking to Comet they are unwilling to help. Their engineer has stated this to be a cosmetic fault - and he hasn't even seen it :D. I offered to send them a picture but they were not interested. They even suggested I had pulled too hard and it was my fault. All because it is currently still working. When I asked where we stood when this broke down, outside of warranty, as a result of the crack on the door they said as it would be out of warranty it would not be covered and there would be no come back from this conversation.
Does any one know if I can go any further with this. Yes the appliance still works but I am not sure for how much longer (I am not a hotpoint engineer;)) and I certainly would not have expected cracks like this to appear within the 1st year of use.
    Suggestions appreciated :)

    Hi sandrap,

My name is Andy and I’m from Comet.

I was sorry to note the problems that you have been experiencing with your dishwasher with regards to cracks appearing on your appliance. It was also disappointing to hear that the advice you were given by the engineer was unhelpful and I will ensure this is looked into by the manager.

After seeking advice from the Manufacturer and our white goods specialist, who confirmed that there no known reasons why cracks would appear on your dishwasher, therefore I would like to arrange for one of our engineers to call out and inspect your dishwasher in order to determine the cause of problem.

Therefore could you please send me an email using the link below which includes your purchase details.

You will need to register a few details to be able to send your email in.

    Regards,

    Andy
