tell them the crack is getting bigger and you can see wires and connectors through it, you are worried that if it gets any bigger somebody may get accidently electrocuted, i guarantee you they will be there in next to no time0

I think Kaya's suggestion is probably the way to go with this.:T0

The are 2 problems with this. First of all, when the engineer gets there and realises that this is a lie, the OP is likely to receive an invoice for the hassle.
Second problem, what wires would be exposed on a door? It is just a peice of metal/plastic with a latch containing a miscroswitch. No wires involved.0 -
I once had a Hotpoint machine, chap came to fix it while it was under warranty and he broke it and left me without a machine for 2 months. He was absolutely useless!!
I would:
Find out WHO is repsonsible for your warranty.
Ask them again to come out.
If they refuse send a letter by Recorded Delivery stating they have 7 days to come and have a look at the machine, and get it fixed, before the warranty runs out. If they do not you'll be paying for an independant inspection of the machine . If the machine needs replacing due to it being of faulty workmanship then you will do this and will recover all of your costs in the the small claims court. Make sure you get a receipt for the repairman as this is recoverable too. GET THE REPORT DONE AND SIGNED BEFORE APRIL 10th.
It might be worth you doing this now anyway, it'll only cost £10-£20.
If you have an independant repair man write a report to say the machine is at fault then they will not have a leg to stand on in SCC.
Yime to get tough as you have 12 months guarantee FROM THE DARE OF PURCHASE.
Ring Consumer Direct and find out who the onus is on to get it repaired under warranty.
Alternatively, 'break' something else on it and get them out for that instead and then point out the cracks.0 -
You bought it on a credit card.
Go to the credit card company and tell them that they are jointly liable and you want them to sort it out because Comet are refusing.
If they refuse, you can make a complaint and if necessary get the Financial Ombudsman Service to decide.0 -
Im afraid Hotpoint wont go out to this appliance for an under guarantee call. Comet own/administer the first year guarantee themselves...they keep it all inhouse so to speak.
Ohh. I was not aware of this. I purchased all my Miele Appliances from Kitchen Science. When I rang Miele about the broken soap draw it was Miele I dealt with directly not Kitchen Science. It was a Miele branded van that turned up. I had to show Miele proof of purchase though.0 -

Free Five Year Parts Guarantee
All functional parts are guaranteed for five years. We only ask that these are fitted by our engineers. During the first year, our engineer's time and labour are free. The guarantee does not include items which are consumable such as filters and light bulbs or parts that are cosmetic. http://www.hotpoint.co.uk/hotpoint/after_sales.do
I think the OP has to go down the SOGA route with this one, although it may be difficult proving that the crack was inherent and not caused by misuse.0 -
"She" is right im afraid, its rare for a retailer to do this but Comet will definately not refer the op to manufacturer, Hotpoint will not get involved and if the op rings Hotpoint they will refer them to Comet. Comet take on that 1st year guarantee....after that the remaining parts guarantee comes in and hotpoint will do repairs...free parts but labour is chargeable0

This sucks like a Billy Goat. I am so glad I never purchased a Hotpoint appliance or from Comet. Miele all the way!
My warrantee does not include accidental damage but they replaced the soap draw that I damaged and admitted to damaging. I would get Hotpoint in they might be nice and repair it for you as Miele did with my self damage. I suppose it depends on the company's overall customer ethos. In Miele's case the clearly care about their customers and their customers thoughts about them.0 -
As reported quite often on this forum the manufacturer will often be more sympathetic in these situations. In the case of the soap drawer I would say it was a crucial part, i.e you cant really use the appliance without it. Unfortunately having purchased from Comet that option is not open to the op.0
