Cheapest place to buy plant pots?
Hello,
Well I seem to have done quite well so far with my herbs and broccoli so far and as my plants keep growing and growing, I need to keep getting pots. I have been to poundland and wilkinsons and they seem to be the cheapest so far. Any other cheaper ideas? I believe that some go and ask for the ones left out at the garden centre's? Would they say no you can't have them go and buy the ones we sell? I think I feel a bit cheeky but how would others do it? Obviously politely but, what do you say?
Also, I would quite like to have all my outdoor herbs in nice pots on the patio but I have found nice heavy outdoor pots to be rather expensive. Any other ideas there?
Many thanks for any replies

Try on freecycle -I've noticed sometimes people have a clearout, or you could always post a wanted request. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Homebase usually has loads thrown out in a trolley. Ask them if there are any about next time you are in as they are the old one from plants and are usually freeFeb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790

Thanks for this thread i will be interested in the responses.
I also need decent sized potting on pots but....
I live in a small town where the local hardware sells pots at 50p each which i think is quite steep, i don't drive so can't get to the local the gardening centres without pestering OH to take me on days off.
MY local (few miles away) Homebase only sell Stewerts pots 6 for £3.49 which isn't good either, they do have a trolly filled with bits as the previous post mentioned but it's never plant pots always flower trays & polystyrene which i have thought about adapting (the trays).
I have asked local florists, shops out of desperation (always offering to pay for them) to save me pots which they say they will but hardly ever have any as the plants etc normally get sold in the pots.
I must say i have been suprised how hard it is to get hold of cheap pots but it really depends on where you live i think, i don't have any pound shops/homebargains/wilkinsons for at least 16miles from me.
I've been saving all kinds of yog pots etc & i'm looking on E-bay at the moment & have just joined freecycle also so i'm hoping to get some soon! before i go potty! (excuse the pun!)0 -

Oooh, how interesting thank-you, i've got my sunflowers to do soon with my son.
I suppose you could do most plants in them too? ( cant help thinking how hot they would get though,but it can't be a problem or she wouldn't have suggested doing it}
Must remember now not to cut the lid off fully when opening them!.
I bet the council recycling men are going to wonder why my box is a lot lighter, because they are not going to get many now!:rotfl:
P.s I love these cheap ways round that people find!0 -

Go to your local garden centre.. they have huge containers ready to throw.. its where I get all of mine from.. so far numbering 60+
DO NOT PAY for them in any instanceGod helps make my veggie patch grow. He provides everything I need.. It only fails if I do NOT do as He has told me!!
Imagine if Christianity spread like swine flu... how much better the world would be!! God Bless!0
