  • I dont go through a pack that quickly either so I put some greaseproof paper between the slices and put then in a plastic container to go in the freezer - this means I can take out a slice or two without having to defrost the whole lot.

  • Greaseproof works really well, but I often find I don't have any around. I used to roll two slices together, and pop into a (clean) plastic takeaway container. Generally you'll get two or three rolls in a container - depending on the cut - before they look like they'll start touching. It's just a case of taking out as many 2 slice portions as you want then.

The not touching thing sounds weird, but it stops them freezing into a giant rasher blob.

  • Okay so the other day I learnt you can freeze sandwhiches.

Please can people reply and tell me what else can be frozen. As in what can I make in bulk and then freeze?

    All ideas would be amazing

almost anything. except - Lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes (fresh I mean). I also dislike frozen soft fruit, such as strawberries and raspberries - although to be fair if you are using them for cooking they are ok to freeze.

Aslong as it hasnt been frozen in the state before. Eg raw chicken can be frozen & defrosted but not frozen again unless its been cooked. Most things can be frozen, some ready meals say on the pack do not freeze.

Hi version2014, there's already a thread re freezing in the sticky Indexed Collections - if you scroll down to post 4, it'll tell you foods you can & can't freeze http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=8736367#post8736367

lots of good tips on there. especially when it's difficult to get out in this weather - it's good to know what can be stashed in freezer ;)

I'm just wondering if there are any foods that I really shouldn't freeze?

The majority of my cooking is main meals, tomato based with either mince, or diced meats in, and they all go in the freezer, along with most of the baking too... But what about milk/cream based things? I made macaroni cheese at lunch time today, and I've got a portion left over - is this freezable? Or the chocolate dipping sauce I made for a party last night - it's just chocolate melted into milk, with cornflour to thicken, but there's a small tub staring at me in the kitchen that needs to either be frozen or hidden before I eat it!

Questions like these make me feel like a confused student all over again!

    Hi,

All of the mince/tomato based meals can be frozen. As can the Macaroni as BitterAndTwisted said. I find that when I defrost Macaroni or pasta based meals the sauce has been absorbed into the pasta. So to overcome this I add further grated cheese on the top and then re-heat which tends to make a sauce again.

Most of the time things that can't be frozen just tend to turn to mush when defrosted. It won't harm you, its just not very nice.

the only thing i dont freeze is fresh cream it has to be whipped first,or if you want portion it up into amounts suitable for adding to sauces or recipes runny not whipped as its going into "the pot".
