If i've got any slices of roast beef left over, i fry some onions til caramelised, then freeze with the cooked beef, its nice defrosted and reheated with gravy to make a hot beef stottie.
  • Having read loads on this site about HM yougart I decided to try it out. I use 250ml of whole uht milk and half a small pot of yeo valley as a starter (about 2 spoons), I mix it up in my wide mouth metal flask and sit it on the hot water tank in the airing cupboard all night. Next morning I have lovely yougart for my cereal. It comes out quite thin which I don't mind but I plan to add some milk powder next time.

The thing is that it takes me about 5 days to eat that much yougart, by which time both the remaining 250mls of uht milk and half pot of yeo valley is going off. My question is can I make two lots on consecutive nights and freeze the second batch? Will it defrost ok and then still last another 5 days?
    SG.
  • You can :D When it thaws it may have separated, so just give it a stir and it'll be fine.

Here's one I haven't seen answered - can you freeze hot dog type cooked sausages (the ones that are chilled in vacuum pouches) - specifically bockwurst and currywurst?

I wonder if they'd lose their texture and turn to mush...
  • I was thinking maybe we could all compare notes on things we've frozen successfully or unsuccessfully.

I did do a search and couldn't find anything similar so i hope this isn't a duplicate thread.

I've frozen broccoli and carrots and both have been hit and miss. Sometimes fine and sometimes the broccoli disintergrates and the carrots go black. So i only do it when it's rock bottom prices now.

Bread is the best thing to freeze whether it's got cheese or herbs or oats it seems to be fine.

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations when it comes to dairy products. I've frozen milk fine before but not sure on yoghurt, cheese, cream etc.

Also I bought some Garlic reduced the other day and i've only used 1 clove. Has anyone ever tried freezing garlic?

How about peanuts (plain ones)? I bought them reduced yesterday but i'm not sure i'll get round to using them and i'd rather not waste them if possible.

Also I went blackberry picking today and picked loads more than anticipated. I'm trying to avoid making a crumble as i love them but i'm on a diet and i was hoping to eat the blackberries whole. If I freeze them will they go mushy?

If anyone has any other unusual suggestions for items to freeze please let me know. Thanks in advance everyone. :p

With mushrooms, cut them up and stick them in freezer bags with the air squeezed out of them. Fine for throwing in casseroles and spag bol.

Once I put them in a tuppaware box and they became very watery and threw them out.

With cheese - has to be hard cheese and not any creamy cheese. I have a tuppaware box of grated cheese in the freezer. Its full of various cheese that I have bought with YS - both the block and the ready grated stuff. I find that I need to take it out of the freezer about 30 mins before using it.
