Following my E.ON V8 Cap - what to switch to now?

As per the title really. Had a 2006 cap with E.On which ended on 1st March. Looking to switch now as we've been moved to whatever standard one they move us to (I can't remember the name!) post-fix.

Checked the online sites and surprisingly some could offer a saving. However, I will not pay by D/D - I refuse to allow a company to hold my money in their bank accounts and not in my own, and up the monthly payments as it suits them.

No online switch seems to be available to me (would prefer to pay monthly or quarterly cash) so there's no chance of any cashback.

Southern Electric's Go Direct 3 comes out top on the dual fuel switch, but I've never switched before (moved yearly in rented accommodation prior to 2006's cap!), so should I go with SE on the basis that 3 comparison sites make them the cheapest? Plus, does anyone know if I can sign up to Go Direct over the phone and not pay by D/D?
