Oh its not about letting them its about.. i need an account and NOW so i can deposit my husbands funds! otherwise we have NO money

and since they did so many criedt checks on us we are a bit skeptical about ANOTHER bank doing MORE checks.
its sad but true.

If you have no money and a child can't social services assist with a loan etc?

Doesn't help you in the short term, but contemporaneous notes are important when you deal with all organisations (who said what and when etc).

The last record I have of the Santander CEO is Antonio.Osorio@santander.co.uk

try opening a basic account with another bank....i've heard on the grapevine that some banks (I think Barclays and Halifax....maybe LTSB too) will open the account and give account details instantly if you apply in branch

Jenbr, you've been treated appallingly - I was just about to post the CEO's email address too! I've had to do this recently and got a fairly quick reply.

There is also letsworkitout@alliance-leicester.co.uk for complaints.

... the 6% current account tempted me, if only to prove a point, but initial communications are not good. Are they as incompetent as my initial impressions suggest? Have I led a sheltered life with First Direct for the last 18 years or so?

Santander are the clowns of the banking world. You only have to spend a bit of time reading this forum to realise that there are many dissatisfied customers. I dare say your initial impressions are a taste of what these people are really like. Run a mile and get a proper bank account.

I can confirm that the Santander online banking experience is rather patchy to say the least. I've had a sheltered life at FD for the last 18 years or so ...

I have to agree with other posters, open an account elsewhere pronto!!

Co-op, NatWest, Barclays, Clydesdale/ Yorkshire or even Halifax will all open account with the right ID on the spot. Get an account and re-direct any wages/ pay in any other cheques into that account.

The only reason that I haven't mentioned Lloyds / HSBC is that their bank accounts have no debit card or poor cash machine access.

I have a LTSB debit card, and their cash machine access is the same as anyone elses.
