Chaps,
A mate of a mate is selling a next to new Yaris (registered as CAT D on HPI) for £9,000
Is this a good price?
More specifics:
Toyota Yaris 1.4 D4D TR
2009 Model (09 Plate)
1300 Miles
5 Doors
Diesel
Manual
12 Months Tax
Registered as CAT D on HPI.
I enquired about the last issue and the problem was a dent on the boot, which has now been sorted.
Im looking at prices on the net and they are all in excess of 11K for older models that have done much more miles.
Is this a steal or what?
Thanks,

Do you need a diesel? What kind of mileage/driving do you do? Could cost you a fortune if you don't need a diesel.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

The reason why im going Diesel because you get more bang for the buck so to speak. I also do a bit of long distance driving.
That has to be a super sexy bargain price right?
There's absolutely nothing on the tinternet close to that price for that spec.0 -
The answer is NO, Cat D would normally mean minimum 50% ish off CAP/Glass's.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

I'd never choose a car without driving that sort of car first. You'd need to do about 75% of your driving on motorways to make a diesel cost effective (IMO).
I hate diesels.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

WOW you guys can make massive things out of nothing. A cat D is a car which has been written off however the repairs cost less than the car. Usually the main reason cars are written off is because labour per hour is soooo expensive, most cat D's are light as long as the car isnt worth like 250k. If the car is worth 250k or something like this then the car must have had SOOOO much damage to be written off. However if a car is only worth 1k then its very easy to write it off.
However as advice to the original posted, make sure the car is worth 12 if you are going to pay 10 because if you have a accident the insurance will only pay you 10 if the car is written off. As they deduct 10-20% for cat D but again this depends on the insurance company and the vehicle inspectors. Also make sure if your buying a category car that the repair has been done to a good standard and that the paint match is good.
Hopefully this helps.0 -
Interesting.....
Ok given that the car is a 2009 model and has very low mileage, could it be a case where the owner was involved in an accident, the car took minor damage BUT the insurance company had a clause to simply replace the car with a new one labelling the original damaged one CAT D.
Insn't that the best case scenario for a CAT D?
The main type CAT D is where it was totally screwed beyond economical value. The car looks in good nick but I think id need a pro to come and check it out - making sure im not being swindled.0 -
The price for the motor ws originally over 10K and then reduced to a smaller amount. I tried some negotiations and brought it down to 9K.0
